He's getting Larry's shift today. Maybe it's a tryout.

1. He's been doing Sox pre and post for 4 or 5 years so he has the experience.

2. You can tell Ranger feels updates are beneath him and I'm sure he's asked Mitch and Zim for more hosting duties.

3. Mitch and Zim might like him cuz, unlike drink and Goff, Ranger is easy to control and a low risk. He's a safe, boring white that will do as he's told and not cause any trouble or say anything controversial. He speaks well and has broadcasting skills. He's a company man first and foremost. Mitch and Zim might want this for the 6-10 shift where the ad rates are the same no matter who's hosting or what is said.

Just a thought. I've always assumed Goff would get Larry's shift but maybe not. Maybe Ranger is making a late run for it. Maybe these are his "tryouts".

This is Beardown at his best.
He is using his insider's knowledge of the broadcasting business to create another conspiracy theory and he then couples it with race.
"He's a safe, boring white"
What does his race have to do with anything?
And to think how everybody crawls up Elmhurst Steve's ass all the time!

I have absolutely no "insider knowledge" of anything at the Score or anywhere in Chicago media. I don't know anybody that works in radio and hopefully I will never meet one. I've said that several times. This is just an educated opinion. Can't a cracker have a thought on stuff? Why so mad? What's the big deal?

So you seem to know he has no shot? Why? Why is it so far fetched?

Ranger can be the full time night guy at the Score. Sox in the spring and summer and part time host between games in the fall and winter. They throw him some update shifts when the Sox are done so he has something to do. Why wouldn't Ranger want to do a show?

After you were caught drunk in a stall taking it doggy style from Mike Mulligan the other day I would actually question your judgment on all things radio!

Mr Someguy thinks that I think Mully and Hanley are the next Dahl and Meier, due to the fact I don't hate them.

Yet, he continues to avoid explaining why they have ratings?

You might not like them, thats fine, I understand that, but the FACT is the ratings are there, so someone is listening often.

Hey, but really impressive way to argue the facts someguy. You must be a Lawyer or something?

Whoever is listening is brain damaged or in some physical/mental state where as they can't change the station....or people that just don't know any better.

Speaking of FACT'S, here are a few for you: This show sucks, there is no correlation between ratings and quality, people still go and see Adam Sandler movies, M&H are bad at being funny, bad at interviews and just bad. I can't believe that you love this show so much!

People listen to this show for reasons I can't quite understand, well, maybe the normalcy bias creeps in and poisons peoples minds. It is a local show that has "thoughts" on local sports. And again, if ESPN put minimal effort and money into a local show "starring" Hood and Huebner or whoever the fuck, they would best M&H. I mean, the bar is fucking low!

Ranger has a show 162 days a year in addition to having white sox weeklys during the off season. He probably gets as much time as Sir and cobbles together a pretty decent salary for his efforts.

I'm sure Ranger does OK. Still, I would think Ranger would like to advance like anybody else. I don't think he wants to do god damn Sox pre and post his entire career. We often hear drinky and Goff bitch about their struggles to advance in the evil radio biz. How the Score has screwed them. Not so much from Ranger. He's more mature and more of a pro. That's why it wouldn't shock me if Mitch pegged him. He'd be an easy hire and a good company man. He'd be low maintenance and he wouldn't put the Score at risk for something stupid said like Drink and Goff would. He has experience and actually has some broadcasting skills. It wouldn't shock me if he asked Mitch to consider him for Larry's slot. Why wouldn't anybody in his postition ask for it? I'm sure it pays better than doing updates and it's less hours when you consider how many games the Score has during the fall and winter.

The 6-10 shift would not be an advancement versus Ranger's current situation.

Yeah it would. He keeps Sox pre and post and does shows in the offseason instead of updates. That's advancement.

Don't get me wrong. I wouldn't listen. I'm just looking at this from the Score's perspective. Hiring a nice, safe one like Ranger for a slot that doesn't matter much would be advantageous for them.

I heard some of Ranger yesterday. He reminds me of boring priests going through the motions with their homilies with no charisma, depth or humor. Ranger's robotic monotone voice depresses me.

Ranger: Hi there. I'm Ranger. I will be doing a sports talk show for you today. We will discuss the sports topics of the day. I will be taking your phone calls. We will have fun. I will express common opinions and give simple thoughts and observations. Then the show will be over and I will go home.

but I think Ranger would like to be a play by play guy some day, not a radio host. His current position brings him closer to that reality. The last guy who held the position was far less technically capable than Ranger and he got the Rays gig. I wouldn't be shocked to see Ranger get a position in the near future.

In addition, he is not just some dopey guy at a local radio station having to deal with the whims of the "executives" in that industry.. He is a dopey guy at a company with a national brand. He's involved with MLB which can lead to many different opportunities.

I'd take Ranger's job over Sir's any day of the week. You know when you are on. You could probably have a job on the side if you needed extra cash. The position even give you access to Ginger Zee level ass. Meanwhile Goff, Sir and the rest of the down low society get groupies like us.

I understand all that. And I know Ranger has said here that he wants a play by play gig. But there is no harm in getting Lary's shift in the mean time. Like I said, it's a step up from updates and he'd still keep the pre and post.

There is no guarentee he gets a play by play gig. Might as well spread your wings if you can. If something is open at the Score, try for it. Why not?

I think Ranger would have gotten to date Ginger if he were just a regular talk show host too. I don't think it was him being the Sox pre and post guy that got him Ginger. I think drinky's and Goff's assosiation with Bernstein has cost them good looking women through the years. Women regard them as "B&B scum" like Mully does.

Ranger is guest hosting Laurence's show again...for 45 minutes tomorrow night. LoHo & ZZ have yet another DePaul game on The SCORE tomorrow as the Blue Demons face Loyola-Chicago in NCAA Basketball over at the Joe Gentile Center. As a result, there's no HATER WEDNESDAY tomorrow. :(

Hmmmmm. Ranger is hosting for Larry again? This might not be some crackpot theory by me. This might have some legs. Doc, what do you got on this?

Ginger Zee was just on Sunday Countdown. She was wearing something my mom would wear. My mom is in her 70's. This should be the last reference to Ginger in relation to Rongey. Until there's a story in six years on Deadspin about Ginger and Berman. He can laugh again when that occurs.

Larry will bring it up again. You know it was one of his really good friends in the business. Think he even took credit for intro to Ranger?
