I'm about 70% of the way through Game of Thrones according to my Kindle - it is fairly good so far, but it seems like a lot of the minor events in the story are solely to advance the plot...logically they don't make a lot of sense.

For example, minor spoiler:

Ned knowing the king is about to die, but still not telling him about his kids not being his. Throughout the story, as a character, Ned was always blunt. It would make no sense, knowing what was at stake, for him to keep his mouth shut until it was too late.

His best friend was already in immense pain and dying, why would he compound that by telling him the truth about his "kids" when there is nothing that Robert could do about it at that point. He couldn't tell Robert before because he had no proof. Quite convenient he got his proof and then there was a hunting accident.

Keep reading - not everything is revealed right away. Wheels within wheels...

Just imagine had Ned taken Renly's advice right off the bat.

Because Ned was all about being blunt and honest through the first 65% percent of the book, and though Robert never liked what Ned told him, Ned always told him anyways. It doesn't make sense for Ned's character to suddenly hide things.

I'll keep reading, I expect more twists and explanations - this is just one that seems created solely to add a couple hundred pages to the book.

He wasn't hiding anything, he was being compassionate for his friend. You are looking too much into that. And missing the bigger secret Ned is keeping :P Also Martin doesn't need to add pages just for adding them. The story is big enough as it is without padding.

Meereen never happened. They left Slaver's Bay after Yunkai and are wandering through the Dothraki Sea.

Perhaps you should avoid a thread about the 5th book in a series in which you havent read the first book all the way thru yet. :P

The show was actually pretty good. Jackref can tell you all about how in-depth they got with character development for the Blackfish.

I didn't want to make a new thread, nor use a thread about the TV show, which probably sucks dick and/or balls.

I think that when the king has a gigantic Warhammer, certain foibles like blonde haired children are overlooked.

you're gonna have a hell of a time with "dance with dragons". there are even more random character POV throw ins. "feast" at least gets pretty consistent and i found it to be the easiest read.

then again, i LOL'd a whole lot through cersei's stuff and really enjoyed jamie's chapters.

a friend of mine is about 500 pages through storm. she goes, "i hope catelyn finds her sons soon!"

that book is so hard to talk about to anyone who isn't finished with it yet. there is so much that happens. i kinda want to read it again.

i would hope there's a little more pressure on him now with the HBO show that it'll take him less than 5 years to complete "winds of winter".

the problem is that at this point he's clearly making it up as he goes along, so he needs to re-focus on what matters and wrap this thing up.

I know words are wind but I must needs show up. Would that I could if someone promised to fondle my small, firm breasts. Don't jape me because I'm as useless as nipples on a breastplate. If it please you I want this mummer's farce to end. Time to make water and break my fast.

Almost done re-reading Storm of Swords. The Hound's always been my favorite character and I hope he makes a comeback in the last two books of the series. I think he'd be a great POV character for a few chapters, which I'm sure would be named something cleverly vague like "The Gimp Brother With Half a Face."
