No matter how much Will Ohman might suck, He is still far and away better at his job than you are at yours!!!

Grace needs a ticket to get into the HOF. Lee is a far better player than your hero ever was. Was he a tequila buddy of yours? Geez, what a stupid argument you made today.

Have your dad get you another job and spare us your failed comedy routines, your total lack of sports knowledge and your infantile view of the world. Maybe a bit part, not on the cutting room floor, might help you, but you off the air will help us.

If this bothers you, learn to use a f'ng computer and respond!!! Now there's a challenge that you will probably also fail at.

he should be bitching at that $300 million offense which only scored 3 runs in 14 innings rather than the last man used out of the pen.

All he does is whine and blow a few players, maybe more than a few.

Hey dumbasses the Cubs don't have a $300million offense.

Add up the contracts and get back to me.

I'm tired of hearing about this $300 Million figure though. That's what happens when your 3rd sacker opts out of a contract, you don't have to pay Sosa anymore, you don't have a box office draw, and your pitching rotation is 2 deep.

Spread the $300 Million over the full contract lengths, and you'll find the Cubs payroll isn't that big whatsoever, especially when you factor in the fans that flock in blindly from out of state to see the shrine at Clark and Addison.

understandable, obviously they dont have a 300 million dollar payroll. However, its not like the Cubs spend 300 mil (for the long haul) in any off-season. Its still a big deal. Go back to your pale hose

And Mark Grace had the most hits in the 90s? Whoopdeefuckindoo! Rafy Palmiero had two fewer hits and a boatload more HRs and RBIs. They should retire Grace's jersey number in honor of Harry's IQ. They just need to put a decimal point between the two numbers:

1.7

More important stats on Grace.

-He smoked more cigarretes then any player in the 90's.

-He was top 10 in banging women.

-He led the league in "hits with a hang over" for 5 straight years.

-Remarkably, he was the only player in MLB to not bang Cindy Sandburg. So that counts as an acheivement.

Leave Frank alone ..I'm the only guy who can call Frank a dumbass!!

By the looks of your White Sox Slick , they ought to go out and spend $300,000 million on some offense. Crede has become the Crede of 2004 and Paully is back to batting his weight and A.J is stuck in park once again .

How the mighty have fallen at 35th and the Ryan . Ozzie will have a melt down by June and be gone by September.

Hey Stu, don't worry about 'my' White Sox. At least they won a World Series in my lifetime. ...and don't chirp too much, otherwise waive goodbye to Mr. Hand.

Wow... What kind of offense would 300 billion buy?

This thread is quickly losing its focus on the douchebaginess of Harry thinking Grace deserves to have his number retired.

To get us back on track:

2445 hits in 16 seasons. He never collected more than 193 hits in any season. Never had more than 17 home runs. Never had 100 RBI. Given the chatter about his phenomal ability to avoid the strike out, his BB/KK ratio in his career was 1075/642.

He was a dependable and valuable guy to plug into the lineup on most days. His fielding was consistently good and after his first few years he never committed more than 8 errors in any season.

None of the above screams HOF and nothing screams for number retirement. If you want to talk about consistency, Ripken set the bar and Grace falls far short of that standard. Being pretty good for 16 years does not make a modern HOF player.

When considering the most hits in the 90's we have to take into account the fact that obviously he is getting a lot of pitches to hit. Obviously Grace was a great hitter, but he didn't walk as much as others. This was probably due to the fact that he wasn't a power threat so pitchers were more willing to pitch to him. Grace never had more than 95 walks in a year. Frank Thomas had over a hundred through most of the 90's. With his two high seasons being 136 and 138 walks. If you compare Thomas' on base percentage to Grace's, Frank blows him away.

IF (and that's a big IF) Grace somehow makes it into the HOF, then the Cubs can talk about retiring his number. Maybe Ohman and Pie should switch numbers and really piss Harry off.

If Harold has his number retired, than why not Grace???

Putting Mark Grace in the Hall of Fame would cheapen an institution already weakened by the inclusion of Nellie Fox.

I would argue with you further, but I would now like to pop in my video montage of each one of Hall of Famer Phil "The Scooter" Rizutto's 1,588 hits and 38 home runs.

Baines was on the sox in the 80's and Grace in the 90's during the live ball/steriod era (not that i think grace was on steroids). Grace also played in a hitter friendly ball park. I don't think you can compare them head to head like that. But Grace was obviously much more valueable in the field.

Only 95 major leaguers have more hits than Grace. No power or ribbies keeps him out of the Hall, but Cubs should retire his number.

Harry also asserted that Grace was better than Sandberg.

By the way, does anyone have the clip of Harry speaking his 4 lines in Risky Business?

No. But my sources have what Harry said to the director when they cut his lines.

"My Dad won't like this. You'll never work again."

Grace was not better then Sandburg. I think Harry's the same age as Grace. They were single together. Harry was the rich "fatha" guy that got to hang with the rich athlete. Good for Harry, but that's why he has this over love for Grace.

Grace was a good ball player but not a HOFer. His number shouldn't be retired either.

Maybe one day Pie will have his 17 flying from the foul pole and Harry can pretend it's for Grace.

If Sammy hadn't left the way he did and/or corked his bat he'd have his number retired already. HOF, likely if he busts 600.

Does Grace deserve number retirement? I think he does. Moreso than Frank Thomas deserves to get his #35 retired, which will likely never happen either...
HOF for Grace? No chance. HOF for Thomas? if he cracks 500 he'll likely get in for his first 5 years and last one.
