and most people expected the team to suck this year..fine..but go young..why sign a 32 year old dejesus?

People confused about the DeJesus thing are killing me. You need to fill out a roster. He has a 2 year deal with an option for a buyout after 1. I get it if you don't like DeJesus as a player but cmon. You want nothing but shitty rookies filling out the roster?

i would prefer a young jackson out there getting 600 at bats than a 32 year old coming off a bad year. what will dejesus give you over jackson..2 more wins?

Jackson is going to be in CF. The question is: who is going to be in left? Soriano? Byrd? Neither?

Who knew Heenan had such strong Cubs thoughts?!? I love the shock at the lineup possibly sucking in transition next year.

I have no problems with the cubs sucking next year if they get rid of Soriano and Z and bring in a good haul of prospects through the draft, trades, and international signings.

If the Cubs are going to slash payroll, who are they going to spend it on next year if they don't go after Fielder or Darvish?

There will be some nice FA pitching available next season. The $$ people are speculating for Darvish is absurd.

He seems like the real deal, but yes - absurd money.

Right. I'm hearing ballpark 100m after the posting fee and contract etc. Not the right time for this team to make that move.

As far as pitching next year, just off the top of my head, the class will include: Matt Cain, Danks, Shields, Marcum, Hamels, Haren, Tim Hudson. Some really great positional players available too. If the Cubs save some money this year with the goal of spending it next year, I can't blame them.

It won't be a problem, but I want nothing to do with this guy. He's already said he's not coming to the states for less than 20 million per year.

Judging by who says they are interested in Darvish, I would put the posting fee at $35M and the deal would be for similar money. So 5 yr/$70M.

Yeah, I can't see them gambling 70-100M on Darvish. 40-50 maybe but not 30M+ posting and 15M+ per annum. No way.

The dude is 6'5" tall and apparently throws 7 pitches effectively. Someone is gonna pay him. I think it will be the Rangers.

They are the favorite along with the Yankees.

Yanks need pitching, but they got burned pretty bad last time they bought an asian player (Igawa). Rangers need to replace Wilson. Cubs have zero pitchers besides Garza. Red Sox may want in as well. Those are the four teams as I see it.

If the Cubs got Darvish, local vendors could get rid of their inventory of "Horry Kow" gear.

#Cubs claim INF Jeff Bianchi off waivers from the Royals. He is a career .281 hitter w/ 31 HR, 251 RBI and 76 SB in 490 gm

Another high pick 2nd rd in 2005 who hasnt really panned out for the team that drafted him.

Good gamble. He seemed to hit really well in AA last year after struggling in high A the year before.

His highest level of ball is AA...25 years old. Hmm.

Bianchi was added to the Royals 40 man roster following the 2009 season to protect him from the Rule 5 draft.

In March 2010 Bianchi underwent Tommy John elbow surgery, sidelining him for the 2010 season. Bianchi is expected to make a full recovery and start the 2011 season in spring training with the Royals in Surprise, Arizona. After the 2011 season, he was designated for assignment.

The Chicago Cubs claimed him off waivers on December 9, 2011.

MLB Trade Rumors:

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/12/c ... crisp.html

The Cubs' inquiry on Crisp is interesting, since they have left fielder Alfonso Soriano under contract for $54MM over the next three years, with a full no-trade clause. New Cubs president Theo Epstein acquired Crisp from the Tribe for the Red Sox early in '06, extending him a few months later.
