My partners and I took a fucking bath on a house we built in Winnetka. A lawyer I actually happened to know who lives in Kenilworth was at a showing. His wife loved the house. It's a gorgeous house built with great materials, but perhaps we made it too understated for the market. A lot of people want overbearing McMansions. I learned a lesson. For a minute I really thought the lawyer and his wife were going to make an offer. I don't think I'm going into the home-building business again any time soon, but if I ever do, I'll always remember what the lawyer said to me. "If I'm going to spend $3 million plus on a house, I want it took look like I spent $3 million plus."

no way, you guys are mixing crane up with the bastard lovechild of CGS and ronnie woo-woo: a legendary horribly disfigured entity that lives in the dark crawl spaces and otherwise forgotten underground areas of wrigley field. whenever people hear a bump in the night that sounds too big to be a rat, odds are that it's..... the thing. as the legend go, it's a thing that eats... leftover ballpark garbage and shits straightup crisco (seriously) based off of the hideous odor that permeates some wisely-vacated dark dank corners of the ballpark.

There are some homes off of Algonquin road in Barrington that look like hotels. I bet he could have bought one of those newer homes for around the same cash. I just can't believe that house he bought is 3.1 million,with all due respect to BF.

The fact you can't believe it and that others think it is dumb is totally seperate from the fact this is what you would pay for such a house.

I don't doubt with a few weeks of negotiating he gets it lower, but I am sure it didnt matter to him, what mattered was moving in yesterday!

Who knows, the Ricketts may have even given him a $3M moving expense! So it was not even his money

A lot of people don't get that location, location, location thing. Yeah, Barrington is largely an exclusive place. But it's not the North Shore and it certainly isn't the Gold Coast or Lincoln Park or Lakeview. I have friends who couldn't possibly understand why I like living in Rogers Park rather than Arlington Heights or Naperville.
