This is 1,000% correct. The demise of The Noon Show was a tragic moment and, some advice, don't ever try to talk when a farmer is trying to listen to the commodity prices or you might just be murdered.

I listened to 15 minutes of Brandmeier this morning and thought it was great. I believe he had just told Governor Quinn that he drinks like a woman. It's nice to have another option in the morning.

Mayor Rahm Emanuel, calling in, essentially threatened to hang up if the guy doing the Mr. Moviefone feature from Hollywood wouldn’t stop trying to butt in as the mayor and host shared their favorite Scorcese and DeNiro movies. Without so much as a kiss on either cheek, Mr. Moviefone was eliminated, but not as quickly as a Brandmeier at the top of his game would have done.



And yet.

And yet suddenly there was energy on WGN in the morning, Brandmeier’s peripatetic-verging-on-scattershot mind and hearty enthusiasms playing out like a sudden switch from decaf to espresso shots dropped in a Red Bull. He loves snow! He loves Ditka! He loves Chicago! At his best he has always found a way to win you over with that energy, to salvage bits that weren’t panning out, and he had the gift of knowing to get out of bits before they started to flag.

I agree that there is obviously still interest in the market updates, and I, too, miss the Noon show information. However, my point was that I doubt anyone who is seriously trading, whether farmer or speculator, is relying on the WGN updates. Most farmers are equipped with the DTN system in the office or get real-time info on a smart phone- the money is just too big and the technology so widely spread not to follow closer.

Button 48, I once had the chance to be an intern for a day with Spike O'dell @GN- the most striking revelation of the day spent at the studios was that Max Armstrong might not be more that 4'6" (four feet six inches) tall......

The guy has been off the air for what seems like a decade and he is only 55. That means he was doing his best work in his 30s and made enough during that time to go into semi retirement. All the shock jocks in this city aged quickly. Dahl, Mathews, Brandmeier, Stern all seem much older than mid to late 50s now.

Oh my god, what? Who even knew this show existed? Real? I hadn't heard Putman's name since the early 90's when she did traffic... I guess she really is Resurrection Johnnie. Didn't her choker collar used to vibrate whenever there was a big accident?

That's too bad about Steve & Johnny. They were old but very pleasant. Talked a lot about music. They came out of the "Roy Leonard" school of broadcasting. I liked them.

as the legend goes, i think the head honcho at WGN had to hang suge knight out of a window to get him to relent from signing jonny B so there wasn't any problem getting him to take over mornings for greg jarrett.
