In the last 8 minutes the Bears didn't run offense or defense. Lovie looked at the clock and the score, figured he could run the time, surrender some points, make Denver burn timeouts, get the on-side kick, and win the game.

All his calculations depended on everything going perfectly. Sometimes they don't. There was no reason to put the Bears in the situation where everything had to be perfect. The Bears should have played the end-game like they played the first 52 minutes and walk out with the 10-0 win, maybe 13-0, maybe 10-3. Instead on offense we see one yard runs and on defense a light pass rush designed only to keep Tebow in the pocket instead of pressuring him.

All NFL coaches with leads go conservative in the end game, but Lovie is in Dick Jauron territory with his conservatism. He seems to like playing games to the razor's edge between win and loss. He has dodged this bullet several times over the years. The loss is on him.

Wrong.

Our Jim Miller and Howard Griffin said Marion Barber list this game. Where'd you play your ball?

;)

about a minute and a half left, 3rd and 6. If you run, there is about a 5% chance of getting the first down. If they tried a pass play, they have to have a better than 5%...oh wait, I forgot who the quarterback was. Seriously though, if they even tried a pass play, if nothing was open and Hanie just ran forward for a yard or two, the same amount of time would have gone off the clock. The chance to win the game there by getting the first down seems more attractive.

Here is how the wise and powerful dolphin would have run that series:

2:05- 1st and 10- why not call up a conservative pass play. They were geared to stop the run and a little pass could have gotten you 5+. Even if it was dropped it would have taken you to the 2 minutes warning, same as a run.

Then run plays up the middle. Three plays gets you a minimum of 1 minute 45 seconds.

Fuck, thinking about this game it was almost impossible to lose.
