I keep hearing people reference a possible story that Angelo is considering retirement at the end of this season.

Where did this story start?

Angelo seems to be denying it as of now.

Could we get so lucky as for him to retire?

Agreed... might be a forced retirement. Bears have no depth and next year is gonna start getting ugly on D as well because those guys are getting old as hell too.

I think the defense will be fine for at least another year or two but Houston's success this season is definitely either an indictment of the coaching staff or of Angelo's failure to address the offensive line and/or overall depth of the team.

Bears never force anyone into retirement. They just give them contracts that last into their mid 60s. Mc Caskeys are absentee landlords which is part of my frustration with the team. Angelo has done a lot of fireable shit (like not checking the wrong box on a contract) since his arrival without a hint of anger from the owners. They have even allowed Angelo to bring Ruskell in to groom him for the position despite his failure in Seattle.

Precisely. Even if Angelo leaves, Ruskell is the the next GM and he is likely to be 'Angelo Light'

The current situation the Bears are in is similar to what the Blackhawks went through. You have a charter franchise owned and run by a family. They are not running the Bears like a business and holding people accountable that fuck things up and hurt the "business". The McCaskeys and Jerry Angelo are both directly responsible for the Bears failure since they either will not or cannot bring in talented players (because they don't have a talented GM and Management Team) to groom for the future.

Hopefully after Ginny dies there will be a change in direction for this organization and the new regime will treat this team like a business and be solely driven to win titles at any and all costs. Look to the North for inspiration. What the Pack have done up there is a complete wet dream.

We can be mad at Marion Barber, Caleb Hanie, bad luck with Cutler's injury, etc., but the real reasons for failure sit in the owners' skybox.

But they are running like a business in the sense that they make money. That is really all they are concerned about.

I don't want to say "you are right" but....

I thought with the "new" McCaskey running things, something would change. Remember, this franchise fired a GM AFTER a draft one year.

Reminds me of an old Show Biz saying:

"You know what the key is to telling a good jo...TIMING!"

Forbes would tell you differently. Last year they reported the team was undervalued by close to a billion dollars because of managment.

Come on, this has to be Angelo leaking this, right? To delay his firing? He figures (and probably correctly so) that the McCaskey's will figure, well, the guy's going to retire soon, so let's take the easy path and let him do so gracefully, and then we don't actually have to fire the guy. He's done this before after losing seasons.

Mully had this story at the beginning of the year. Angelo's wife said that Jerry was thinking about retiring.

O.B., who is friends with George McCaskey, said on the post game that George will not put up with this situation. Hub also said that Phillips would throw Angelo under the bus to save his job.
