So it seems today is the day his deal with the Bulls becomes official.

He is probably an upgrade at the 2, but is he really what the Bulls needed? He is not the kind of guy that can get his own shot. He is not really a guy that can defensively shut down the best guard on the other team. And on top of all that he is an older guy that has a lot of NBA miles on him.

I want to be excited about this move, but having a real hard time.

Well, it's reported that 2 other teams are in on Rip. I'm predicting he doesn't come to the Bulls.

I feel pretty much the same way, but he's probably the best option available right now. He's definitely an upgrade on Bogans also.

Didn't Hamilton choose to ride out the season on the Pistons' bench rather than go to another team last season? Also, Hamilton has a habit
of disappearing late in games. Bulls would be better off bringing in Billups to play the 1 for 4th quarters and let Rose be 1A. Rose can always kick out to Billups and Billups is money from the FT line late in games. But now Billups is saying he's gonna retire. Billups could be for Rose's Bulls what Derek Fisher has been for Kobe's Lakers.

Billups was claimed by the Clippers, he has to play for them, or stay at home.

Rip has shown the ability to make an open shot and move without the ball. His defense is good enough and has shown he is willing to buy into the grind-it-out style the Bulls play.

The biggest thing he does well is get open off the ball. His addition will make the Heat player-for-player matchup with the Bulls much more difficult.

Lebron - Rose
Wade - Deng
Bosh - Boozer
Battier - Noah
Chalmers/Miller - Hamilton

If Hamilton doesn't come to Chicago, I would really like to know why the hell we can't land any good free agents in this damn city.

I agree, with the obvious note that Wade - Deng is a huge win for Miami. I wanted Rip all along. He helps their mid-range game a ton, makes the other 2 guard work the whole time on defense, can play team defense well, and is a big upgrade over Bogans, who is bad by NBA standards. I wouldn't go nuts over the acquision but it definitely made the Bulls better and unlike Miami's signing of Battier it addressed a weakness.

Deng played well last year. If he repeats it, that matchup won't be a huge win for the Heat.

On Mac and Meat around 10:35 or so they had a guy call in and say that balck free agents don't
want to come to Chicago because there is nothing to do in Chicago. The boys then proceeded
to pummel him with questions in which the caller couldn't come up with any coherent answers to.

I disagree. Deny is slightly below All Star caliber. Wade is one of the top 5 players in the game.

He'd be an upgrade over Keith Bogans alongside Derrick Rose in the backcourt, but does Rip Hamilton's likely signing help the Bulls bridge the gap with LeBron and the Heat? Hard to say...

I disagree. Roy Williams was never any good really. And I think Rip seems more washed up because he was benched last year for telling the coach to go fuck himself.

Not even close.

Rip is a proven NBA guy and someone who has been a key part of some pretty successful teams.

Roy Williams has never done anything.

Horrible comparison.

Couple of Detroit cast-offs no one else wanted. Why's Chicago garbage-picking the Motor City's trash heap. Image

Yeah, I know what you referring. There was quite an incident involving several players revolting against now ex-Pistons' head coach John Keister (sp?) midway through last season. I think it was a classic case of the players & coach no longer on the same page and Keister (sp?) was fired right after Detroit's disasterous season ended.

What was the Bulls cap room heading into this off-season?

Boozer was a pretty big name BEFORE joining the Bull. :(

He was still like the 5th best free agent available that summer.....the Bulls can't even get on the list of teams Dwight Howard would think about getting traded too....Maybe BigFan is right about Riensdorf.

Honestly I am just happy the Bulls missed out on VC and T-Mac. Rip is definately an improvement over Bogans and he will be able to space the floor a little bit which will open lanes for Rose. His facemask is still lame as shit.

Hamilton was never a 4th quarter guy for those Piston teams. Billups and Sheed were the go-to guys in the 4th quarter for those Piston teams.
Hamilton should still be able to stroke FT's at ~90%. Anything else is iffy.

I like the move! my only worry is his age 33,in baseball he would be destined for a huge decline why not bball?

That's a genuine concern and it's something I worry about too. It's not just the age but it's the minutes. Rip has a lot of hard miles on him right now. Two good years is probably all he has left.
