Granted, it's coming from Phil Rogers.

"A Cubs source confirmed that Epstein has expressed some interest in both the 39-year-old Varitek and the 45-year-old Wakefield, but nothing appears imminent with either player as the team explores options with more shelf life."

Varitek is fine as a backup. The Cubs already have several #5 starters, so I would pass on Wakefield. Though, I do appreciate his consistency.

Do you disagree with my assessment that both of those players would have made better acquisitions around 2004?
Where is the joke?

Poster of the Year!

Wellington Castillo does not approve of this rumor.

If they get Prince and Yu Darvish, it makes sense. If not, then no.

Same thing for Jamie Moyer. He is bound to be better in his second stint with the Cubs.
