Marshall was solid. guys like him don't grow on trees but hopefully the ML guys are solid players,too.

I'm good with this. Marshall was too much of a luxury for a team that has this many holes.

As long as the minor-leaguers are decent prospects.

I was always a huge fan of Marshall's (Matt Murton too) and never understood why the Cubs never gave him a fair shake as a starter.

The Padres got all their top guys but these two better be the best of the rest to trade one of the best left handed set up men in the NL.

Travis Wood isn't a full on reclamation project. The Reds probably brought him up too quickly resulting in him learning at the MLB level. He could be great...after he leaves the Cubs.

Marshall is an excellent lefty out of the pen......right now. He is great to have right now on a team that will actually compete but I don't think he is of any great value to a team that is in the early stages of a total rebuild.

not quite... there's a slight hangup with the man that many here affectionately know as "woody" in that after his sweetheart andredawsonblankcheckredeux 1yr contract last year, he's looking for a "market value" contract this year.

in other words, ~1-1.25mil/yr ain't gonna cut it for our guy kerry this time around.

right off the bat we're gonna find out just how much theo values "the proud tradition of the chicago cubs" by seeing how much he's willing to give a guy who wants to be a "cubs lifer" more than anything else. it's almost like a war of wills... who has the juice to call the dollar amount? how much can kerry get just because he's kerry wood he's a "cubs guy" and he's already given you either one or two sweetheart hometown discount deals during his quest to become a "cubs lifer" ?!?!

hopefully theo takes care of him, insomuchas he's still a good solid bullpen arm with closer experience who could make marmol that much more tradeable (hint hint)

K.Wood will get a 1 yr/ $3.5M deal eventually. But the Cubs don't care at the moment because they know he won't sign with anyone else.

you don't think wood could get 4-5? for some reason i keep on thinking he's thinking he's worth somewhere in the $5-7mil/yr range, so i hope he could at least get $4mil/year from them.

It's going to be interesting what Theo will get for Garza.

I forgot about Cashner returner as well. Something else is going down if they pick up another fairly cheap starter like Maholm or Francis.

I thought I also heard talk of them making Shark a starter again.

If they are in fact stuck with Z and have no option but to keep him or cut him and eat all that money I would be tempted to trade Marmol and see how he does closing. He might end up being really good at it. Alot of his weaknesses as a starter could be turned into strengths as a closer. He would be expensive as hell for a closer but that is really beside the point if the other option is to cut him and eat all the money.
