I know its pointless to try and reason with you.....but if we take your assumption that Marshall has been overworked the past 3 years as fact wouldn't it be good to trade a guy right before he breaks down as opposed to paying him to rehab from injury?

i have no problem with moving marshall..for that reason which i stated days ago..he has been overworked and could very well have problems later this season...just did not get enough for him...t wood has zero value in my opinion..he is a buster who at very best could be a bad 5th starter and quite possibly not good enough to even make the rotation..torreyes is an undersized prospect who will pronbably never make the big league team.

Fair enough. I hope you are wrong but sometimes prospects don't pan out. I would be lying to you if I knew about any of these guys before a few days ago when all of this broke. Nice to see that Theo is restocking the farm system at the very least.

What should the Cubs have received in return for Marshall. Specifics. Give me either players, or the ranking level of prospects they should get back. How many players, etc.

maybe i am over valuing time will tell..i think santos and marshall are solid 8th and 9 th inning guys with good stuff that could have brought more back when teams need bullpen help in june or july to push for the playoffs..at ;least kenny got major league ready starter who will be pitching this season for the club..t wood is a proven bum who should not make the rotation

Kenny got a player back that will start at AA this year. Talented, but wrong. Travis Wood is......

Forget it. I'm hungry.

Something did come out of this silliness. I will now forever call him Travis "Busta" Wood.

Now I'm going to Panda Express.

Marshall had a 32-40 record, 7 saves, and 3.96 ERA in his Cubs career. He is a nice piece to have in the bullpen. But the Cubs got a younger pitcher and 2 prospects for a reliever, a reliever that was not going to be here long term. Not sure how anyone can look at that and say it was a bad move.

More I read about the two guys, the more I think the Cubs made out pretty well.

Just an FYI for everyone, the Cubs are not going to be good next year. Who gives a shit who is in the bullpen?

I am sure you do. If I were a Reds fan I would be pissed at giving up on 3 guys for a reliever. Reds seem to think they can step up and get a World Series in the next couple of years. With all the prospects they are losing the better hope so. If not, it maybe back to the basement.

I'm not happy about losing Alonso and Boxberger in the Latos trade. Sappelt was great in AAA but couldn't hit with the Reds last year. I hate giving up on Wood. He was great when the Reds won the Central in 2010.

Check out home/road splits for Travis Wood. http://www.baseball-reference.com/playe ... Career&t=p He was a very different pitcher outside of Cincinnati.

8-4 3.58 ERA on the Road in 22 starts

i think alonso is going to be a hell of a hitter. not a big power guy, but perhaps 20-25 HR, but nice BA and OBP numbers as well. the reds had to trade him though, nowhere for him to play. he is an out-and-out liability in the field.

That's my point. How could he think the Cubs could have "gotten more" when we don't know who is included. If the Reds gave up Hamilton, I'll be pissed. I've watched him play many games and the guy is a stud. He steals second and third almost every time he's on base and his hitting improved dramatically from the beginning of last season to the end.

We already have Tony Campana

wins do not mean much ..whip and era are better indicators...his whip the last 2 seasons is 1.11 and he cut own on the homeruns given up greatly..one hr last year and 3 in 2010 ..pretty damn good for 75 innings a year the last 2 seasons.

This is a trade Jim Hendry would never make, and that's partially why I love it. That may not be all Hendry's fault, but the fact that they are moving a guy under control for 1 year for a guy under control for 4-5 years, and 2 decent prospects, is a good sign. There is no sense in having a great middle reliever on a bad team that is going nowhere.

Hopefully this starts to send the message to fans that Theo doesn't think this team is going anywhere in the near future. Which is absolutely the right answer btw. In the past, this is the type of season when Hendry would try to make a few "big" signings that seem really neat, but don't ultimately work, and then cripple the organization for years.

Instead, you have Theo trading a great very short term asset for long term assets. This is definitely a different organization already and it's exciting, IMO! Lot of work to do, but doing the right things for the long term is such a pleasant change.

Think long term. These guys aren't going to have a huge impact on 2012. Wood may, but the prospects are long term. Marshall was never going to get you "can't miss" type guys. Marshall just had very little value to the 2012 Cubs. Having a great middle reliever (who you control for 1 year) on a really shitty team is a huge waste.
