What would Bernstein say? WWBS

This is going to be SOMETHING. JORR is wrong (Mike North Thread). I'm a Cubs fan,but I will be listening to Mike North doing these broadcasts. It has great "car crash" appeal. It seems Reinsdorf just loves hiring guys who have ZERO expierience in the jobs he hands out. That's how he builds his loyalty base. Williams,Ventura and now North in the booth. He rescued him from oblivion. You think North plans to "step out"? Not with checking with "Uncle Jerry" first.

"Mr. Reinsdorf,Rios isn't hustling and batting .208,may I say something?"

Jerry: "Not now,Mikey...give him another few weeks."

" OK,Sir"

It's going to be a white elephant thing...his name will never be mentioned, except in passing.

Yesterday in transition,LoHo and Danny talked about 24 minutes about the 20 year reunion, not once mentioning the "original" guys.

Doesn't the Score use their own radio clips for highlights? He'll be on twice an hour.

Did B and B ever have DJ on?

It would be hilarious if they were mandated to interview him weekly

The kick in the head song will be played a lot but no names will be mentioned. The producers will only use clips in which he is making an ass of himself which will be 90 percent of everything he says.

Listen to the B&B podcast from 12/21/2011 during the 5 PM hour. The last 30 or so minutes was devoted to the holidays, and the upcoming 20 year party. They mentioned North and said something to the effect that he was a key player in getting the station early recognition.

I suspect you'll get your fill of it rather quickly.

Wait until he has to do the play-by-play. That will be a mess and then some. So much for guys busting their tails to try and get to the big leagues who are more qualified than this guy.

This is just another example of people getting work in this industry thanks to who they know and not what they know. Sure that is what happens in any business, but when you have had successive failures and have become a laughing stock in an industry in which people tie personalities to the product, one would think that regardless of who you know you probably will not get hired.

As a Sox fan I have been disgusted by what they have done regarding their radio broadcasts. Farmer is possibly the worst play-by-play man I've ever heard (having listened to games for over 40 years, both Cubs and Sox), and Darrin Jackson was just a terrible fit. The two had no chemistry and were not an enjoyable listen.

Now, if the rumors are correct, you bring North into the booth. Reinsdorf is very loyal to his friends and it seems evident to me that North, somehow, falls into that category. This would be a slap in the face to any Sox fan who listens to the radio. His inability to communicate (in other words, have a command of the English language) in this medium is astounding. The man falls over his words constantly and has a need to be the center of attention. He contradicts himself almost regularly and his uneducated and uninformed opinions turn off listeners rather than bring people to the station. This is another example of the ownership treating this third major market team like some sort of small market entity. Two words: train wreck.

This hire also tells me that the club is desperate to do something to attract attention. The hiring of Ventura is beyond a head-scratcher and the dumping of players like Santos and Buehrle (with possibly more to come in the way of Quentin and Thornton) makes me think Reinsdorf has pulled the white flag from several years ago back out. Maybe the thought is that what happens in the booth will divert the attention of people from the problems that exist on the field.

I'll be interested in seeing how WSCR management tells their on-air staff how they have to conduct themselves in light of this situation. Will they be allowed to not only take shots at the team, but will they be able to criticize North as they see fit. I'm wondering if they will tell them that the broadcasts are "hands-off" and cannot be talked about. I wonder if this will go into the "who ya crappin" segment because you know there will be a line of callers just itching to take their shots.

Chip, first off...how old are you?

Youre over 40? That is surprising. I thought that SCORE search thing was for younger guys (no offense)

Secondly, you cant just say North is terrible. I mean you can, but its not correct. Especially the line about turning people off.

The guy got ratings for years did he not?

I think he'll have a difficult time containing himself if Rios fails to go hard. And who knows what might happen if they bring in some militants... uh, I mean, black players over the winter. By the way, is this a fait accompli?

North boosted ratings while on the air because the average Joe Schmo Chicagoan was able to relate with a guy that sounded just like their friends at the bar (or hot dog stand, as it were). The same thing works for Mully and Hanley.

Conversely, hosts like Bernstein boost ratings because people like to hear someone with a more-informed opinion on things that happen in their city, plus his ability to make fun of everyone at the same time without Joe Schmo Chicagoan realizing it.

It's the same reason why Tall Midget is one of the best posters here. He has incredibly intelligent thoughts, is very well-read, and is silently making fun of all of us at the same time.

No, Bernstein is obvious when he's making fun of someone. He is smart but not comedically clever....there is a difference.

That's all great, except bernstein is often ill-informed. Comparing him to Tall Midget is a disservice to Midget.

You understand that because you're not Joe Schmo Chicagoan. Most of the morons who call that show never even realize they are being ridiculed.

Exactly. As was mentioned in another thread on North, Farmer now gets to see all of the meatballness that this city has to offer rolled into his broadcast partner. Those same meatballs are the ones who Bernstein can't stand, nor can they understand why "dat Bernstine guy won't answer da question".

There is rampant speculation that he will be replacing DJ alongside Ed Farmer for the 2012 season.

Just a rumor from the Nort lovers right? I haven't seen someone step up and say it is a certainty.

I could see North doing his "shtick" in a 3-man booth maybe at home games, only.
That might be a "thing". Also,Mike has expierience. Did we forget his time with the Rush? He was the "color" man.

the burning question will be.......................will the mike north entertainment network still be up and running now that mikey has a real job? i don't know if the world will survive without the mike north 30 minute news in 5 minutes. and all his sponsors will probably go under without mikey's website. :D

It would be funny if this was nothing more than a weekly Sox show on Comcast.
