LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- Russell Brand reportedly stands to gain about $20 million in his pending divorce from pop star Katy Perry.
The comedian is in line for the huge lump sum in a 50/50 split of the couple's earnings, even after just 14 months of marriage.
Brand and Perry did not sign a prenuptial agreement when they married in October 2010, so under California law, he could be entitled to half of her fortune.
Brand has filed for divorce from Perry last Friday, citing "irreconcilable differences."
Brand released a statement, saying, "Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I'll always adore her and I know we'll remain friends."
He had earlier denied the rumors of a pending divorce.
Brand appeared on "Ellen" this month, saying "I'm really happily married ... I'm married to Katy. Perpetually, until death do us part was the pledge. I'm still alive."
But the couple was reportedly having problems. Unidentified sources said they had a huge blowout just before the holidays.
On Christmas Day, Perry was in Hawaii, photographed swimming in her bikini, while Brand was in England. Neither was wearing a wedding ring.
The two were married Oct. 23, 2010 in India. They have no children
