I would imagine that the success rate for drafting WR's is about the same as it is for other positions. Not every draft pick is going to end up a star, but you have a much better chance of drafting successful future NFL players if you draft pretty close to the chalk & pick players from major college programs, rather than what the Bears have done drafting players from schools that most other teams aren't even looking at, & being contrarian.

Jennings and Nelson were both second rounders.

A far cry from a flier in the 4th round

Im not arguing for taking a WR in the first round specifically, but it is as important as any position outside of QB

I think you are underestimating how difficult it is to find a good reciever because a few success stories in later rounds.

I'm not at all. My point is it is exceedingly difficult to find a WR - outside of a few (nearly) sure things.

You know what's less difficult? Buying a free agent with a proven track record of success. Adequate WRs are out there, stud Tackles, great defensive players are rarely so. You have to draft those guys.

Adequate WRs, and maybe a top 15-type guy like Bowe, will get the job done if Cutler is as good as he is supposed to be. Draft guys that are less of a crapshoot than WRs.

No the lineman list DOES NOT look better.

If you listed how many years they started next to the reciever (as if that means something) the WR list would be a lot better.


Alex Barron started for 5 years- AWFUL
Robert Gallery has started at Guard for 6 years- HUGE BUST


So Ill need something more than Years as primary starter.


Going over the lists I got about 22 good Wr and 25 Bad
The lineman are slightly better at 15 good 13 Bads


I dont think drafting an OL who's good is as easy as youre making it seem.

But we have two fundamental differences here

I believe....

1) The Window on Urlacher-Tillman-Briggs is Shut, locked, and barred.

2) Defense has never been less important in this league.

I thought this at the beginning of this season and was proven wrong. These guys are still pretty damn good provided their offense can give them a bit of a break. Yes they are getting older but I don't think the window is totally closed yet. Its not open very wide though.
