Hub (I think it was Hub) told me it was Jay Cutler's fault nobody would come here a few years ago. Glad it has been straightend out.

I don't listen much but good gravy...does he come up with stuff like this a lot? My brain came too a screeching halt trying to process that statement. I was operating a motor vehicle. I could have been hurt!!

Hub is basically never right about football but that may have been true a few years ago, however Cutler's play and attitude seem to have improved a lot the last two seasons.

Nobody wanted the job two years ago because Lovie was entering the final year of his contract and thus was perceived as a lame duck.

I assume Lovie will again have problems filling the position this year for similar reasons.

So I guess that leaves us with Mike Tice and Jay Cutler as our co-offensive coordinators.

I would imagine the fact that the team's head coach refuses to abandon the "run first" mentality despite exisiting in a league that lives and dies by the pass might have something to do with it, too.

Just another reason why Lovie needs to be let go as well. That team will simply be spinning its tires unless the entire system is revamped or refocused. Lovie might be a fan of the run, but when your RB isn't happy and your best player in under center, then the philosophy is crap.

I don't care who they hire as the GM or OC. Lovie has the reigns right now, because if he didn't (or if Phillips had any guts) he would have been fired, and that prevents the GM or OC from doing their jobs effectively.

He and Turner didn't get along. Mike Martz was ready to get out of town ASAP even with no other job lined up.

He was better at it this year but the style he played can also make an OC look bad while not making him look good when it works. When Cutler would have a good game people would say "Look at those throws, no one else can do it, he's overcoming the people around him" and when he did bad they'd put a ton of blame on the WR's, O-line, and OC. Most Bears fans seemed to blame offensive issues, besides some of the interceptions, on just about everyone but him.

It will be interesting to see what happens now. You'd think with a QB who some think is better than Romo and Matt Ryan that there would be a huge demand to fill this job.

Lovie's first choice for offensive coordinator two years ago was Mike Martz. This would seem to be an odd preference for a coach who, as you claim, adheres to a "run first" mentality.

Agreed, and I disliked the move for that team two years ago as well. It was obvious that Lovie hired Martz because of the familiarity (and friendship) the two coaches established over the years, but coaching philosophies differed right from the start.

I dont think coordinators look at ONLY QB when evaluating a job. They might look at the Lollipop Guild that the Bears call recievers and not want the job

While it is Martz's philosophy to pass the ball no matter what, Lovie isn't necessarily opposed to such an approach--unless it is unsuccessful. Martz wants to pass the ball. Lovie wants to do whatever works. One might thus conclude that Lovie has no clearly defined offensive philosophy--being completely ignorant of the offensive game will, after all, have the tendency to render one ineptly rudderless--and therefore it is logically impossible for he and Martz to have a "philosophical" difference on the matter of offensive concepts.

Martz turned down a 1 year extension from the Bears earlier this season. He was not fired, he left on his own accord.

Perhaps, although I would be more convinced of that "whatever works" passive offensive mentality for Lovie if he wasn't so adamant during press conferences and interviews to state they needed to focus on the run. Whether that is what he truly believed or not, I cannot possibly know. Lovie has certainly done a fine job of keeping his true feelings and opinions close to his chest.

Lovie has made many contradictory statements about his offensive "philosophy" over the years. Again, I think he has done so because he lacks a clear offensive vision. As I have said previously, this is a major reason why he should be fired.

Turner and he had issues going back to high school.

Denver did a lot of silly things when J-Mac was there.

I think if Cutler is provided with adequate (not even great) players around him the OC will love him


OC is an underrated rapper.

Cutler's reputation of being hard to work with predated Josh McDaniels. It may not have been all deserved but there is a lot of smoke here that indicates that Cutler and OC's don't mix well together. I guess it could be a series of bad combinations. I guess we'll see how well the Bears do in picking the new OC. What OC wouldn't love to coach a player who you think is better than Matt Ryan and Tony Romo unless there were other issues?
