Some stories I have heard that didnt make the media are just terrible about him and I am surprised a locker room blowup never went down.

And Z has been nothing but cool and nice to me each time I have seen him. So I should be telling you what a great guy he is and they need to give him another chance, but it was past the time.

Theo did a fine job of trying to tell everyone he was coming back, we will give him another chance, etc.

Just ask any media guy what he would say to them about what they looked like, how bad they dressed, how they made so much less money than him.

So he was the one who started the "I'm sorry you're poor" meme!

To be honest, sports writers are a funky ass looking bunch.

Volstad is not as bad as people are making him sound. He's definitely not a bum . He's a major league 4th or 5th starter, nothing wrong with tiz

Zambrano has been average fir the last 3 years. He didn't have a ton of value. He will start out well and end badly

I have way more positive memories than negative ones with Z and Ill always recognize the role he has played in destroying the Old Cubbies

Not arguing with you on that one, just an example.

Watching big z news on sports central and the recap of his career and all...no I mean ALL the crap he pulled, whew....it is relief that he is gone. The cubs had FEW choices here, and I think addition by subtraction applies here. Dan plesac said the guy the cubs got could be a diamond in the rough. That's probably doubtful, but the key here is dumping z. He had to go. Good riddance.

I find this deal very encouraging-to-a near steal for the Cubs.

Trading away a cancer of an average 30-year old pitcher for a 25 year old with 3+ years of big league experience who is locked up for 3 years. That's getting some return for the money you had to spend anyway.

I am good with this deal. There are things I liked about Carlos and he may very well have a great year but this change needed to happen. I don't get all the Volstad hate either. The guy is young and he eats innings. You know what pitcher was on a mission the last few years to destroy the entire pen??? It was Mr. 100 pitches by the 5th inning every start Zambrano. Having a starting pitcher who can pitch a 5 shutout innings (or give up 5 runs in 1 inning) but gets pulled every single game at or around the 5th inning due to sky high pitch counts is not a pitcher I want in my teams starting rotation.

the cubs were going tho spend the 18 million this year one way or the other. some of the posts make it sound like it is costing the cubs extra to have him go. the 18 million is already GONE. id rather have zambrano gone with it. id happily take my chances with volstad. nobody and i mean NOBODY was going to take zambrano and his contract. what better deal was there they could have held out for? i am personally shocked they got anyone as GOOD as volstad! he sure hasnt been great the last couple years, but he is young and has decent control (of his pitches and his temper).

i am gaining confidence in theo and company, clear this shit out and start all over. that old contract money is gone, get what you can for these big contract guys.

I loved Zambrano when he was on but he was insane. Quitting on the team last year was the last straw. Good riddance. Hopefully he headbutts Burhele.

This was certainly a good move.
First, the physical things... Z is 31, he throws too many damn pitches when he's a starter, does not take particularly good car of himself. How will the Miami heat affect his cramping issues? His back issues?
The guy they're getting back is big, he nearly 6 years younger and he's under contract for 3 more years. His career arc is on the upswing, while we KNOW Z's is on the downswing.
This is a very Theo-esque move to make.

Yeah they're gonna eat a huge chunk of money. Getting out from under Hendry contracts figures to be somewhat painful and difficult, much like getting out from under Hendry himself, I suspect.

But the shit attitude that Z had was terrible. Quitting on his team is the worst thing you can do as a professional baseball player. You just can't do that shit man. Sooner or later this guy is gonna hairline fracture his femur breaking bats in anger of not hitting a home run with a home run swing in a situation where they need someone to just put the goddamn ball in play.

No, this was a very good deal. Very good.
And what if he starts 30 games, wins 20 and is a Cy finalist?
Well, good for him then. I'm happy for him. That's cool.

I firmly believe that if this were to happen, Ozzie is one of the only managers who could get production out of him.

If he is a Cy finalist, his option year vests and the Marlins will owe him $19M in 2013.

Correct;
*get that kind of production out of him

BC, all the more reason for him to pitch like a true #1

That wasnt my issue.

So, you believe that Ozzie can do it now or you will if/when Ozzie does it?

Well, part of it is Z himself. But I think the best candidate to turn him around in terms of a manager is Ozzie. I believe its possible for Ozzie to turn him back into an 18game winner.

Ok, it sounded like you were saying. "If he does it, then ill believe he can do it!"

Hilarious reading some of NSBB board on this stuff. The people who post there are so out of touch with reality. Hoping the Cubs would get Logan Morrison back for Zambrano as long as we included a prospect and covered all of his deal. Goodness.

Oh my god, self-importance at it's best. Talk about a place that overvalues their Cubs opinions. It's like the thinking man's bleed cubbie blue.

I guess this season, we might get an answer to that ole "Buehrle vs Zambrano" question that went across many threads here.

The site is the message board equivalent of listening to White Sox post game callers with Ranger

Using We and Us gets overly demonized here.

I mean, who cares, you know what it means

Players regularly refer to fans as part of the team and dont recieve ridicule.
