Listen to very little rap or hip-hop. Started listening to this album this morning and I'm really enjoying it. What's the perception of this album/Common in general? Most every track I really like.

Good, not quite great is how I would put it but not enough time has passed. Common albums age like fine wine.

Wait til Nas.Com comes out....thats gonna be tight YA'LL

You hear his verse on Stay Schemin?

My motto is: Chicago, bitch
Everybody know you sweet, what the problem is
Don’t play dumb, I’m the one that acknowledged it
Son of a bitch, I imagine what your father is
She said, “How you make your opponent, the rapper of the moment?”
His style, he don’t own it
Acting all hard when he hardly like that
You gon’ mess around and make me catch a body like that, ooooh
Don’t do it
‘Cause every song you make Joe is really hoe music
I heard you said you wasn’t a bitch because you sing
You a bitch because you cling like a bitch that’s eighteen
Can’t say my name but rap about a nigga’s wife
You so black and white, tryna to live a nigga’s life

I’m taking too long with this amateur guy
You ain’t wet nobody, nigga, you Canada dry

Sooner or later rappers will stop trying to battle Common.

Yeah, I guess Drake thinks he can do what Ice Cube couldnt.

Drake is getting real close to getting a produced "The Bitch in Yoo" type track from Com.

Drake didn't help himself with his very ghay reaction to a question about the talentless Lil Wayne. Did you hear that? I said talentless Lil Wayne

He can play Eddie Royal in Fourth and God: The Tim Tebow Story

If you ever feel like hating on Drake just go to the Big Ghost blog. He finds a way to rip Drake in every post.

I was looking for an Aceyalone freestyle on Youtube and came across a video titled "Eminem vs. Lil Wayne"

Starting to really like this album...

Sweet (Drake Diss)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fAo6s94X2sk

[Intro: Common]
You know they be asking ’bout Common, where he at?
What that man doing now?
I’m doing what I do, Hip-Hop
That's what I do
Yeah

[Verse 1: Common]
How can I say this, fuck it I’m the greatest
I am the A-list for all these great debaters
A lot of ya’ll nah nah, forgot now who I am
The '87 nigga used to rah rah in the jam
Aw yeah, we put them things in the air
When I drop a single, it’s really like a pair
Of Air Jordans, important to the culture
If you ain't true to it, cállate la boca
Get my drink on like a coaster
Post up on the wall that Mike used to live off
Hip-hop Master Cleansin', I’mma get my shit off
Rollin’ in a Maserati Gran with the lid off
I bit all like a monster, live nigga this is my encore
Encore, encore, I rhyme for the commoners
My name synonymous with prominence
I’m to Hip-Hop what Obama is to politics
Common is

[Interlude]
Yeah, man
Y’all niggas man, you soft muthafuckers
Yeah my man, muthafucker
Then come around my crib
You know where I’m from
Some ho ass niggas
Singing all around me man, la la la
You ain't muthafucking Frank Sinatra
Uh, lil' bitch
Yeah, this the raw right here
This the raw right here nigga
Sweet muthafucka
Sweet ass bitch muthafucka

[Verse 2: Common]
Wa da da da, wa dada dada dang
The C-O double-M O-N, I’m not playin’
Da da man at work, I make my own lane
I’m the franchise so I rock my own chain
No I said give 'em that 80′s cocaine
Somethin’ raw, something pure so I stayed in that vein
The hero that he know, that he cold
Like when it's below in the Geo, wipe ya feet off in the Regal
I’m king, observe the throne and the dream
I have it, supreme like mathematics
Yeah, a breath of fresh air for you asthmatic rap addicts
Pro black magic, this is semi-automatic
Rap we won’t jam in traffic
The game need direction, I’m here to map it
Uh, some people say that they be missing creativity
But when it come to hip-hop, it begins and ends with me
Sweet

[Outro: Common]
You know man, you should know where I come from
You should know who I am nigga
You should never wanna go against me
You know man, you too soft for that man
I be seeing you man, I see it in your eyes man
You ain't the type of nigga that could go against me
You get in my presence you gon’ feel like a little ho
You ain't a man yet, you tryna be somebody else
Man, be yourself man, you come around my crib, you get your shit took
Huh! Wherever you go, you probably be overseas in Europe and get yo shit took
You’s a ho, you know you sweet
Ain't nothing you can do man, people see that man
Broads be seeing you sweet
Done wit’ you muthafuckas, it’s over for you
It’s over for you
It’s over, sweet muthafucka

also, call me old fashioned.... but when your "first major rap beef of 2012" is between two guys who look like this...

NOBODY WINS! especially not us.

/me goes back to searching for aceyalone freestyles on youtube so he can fit in around here.

actually, if you want to see a motherfucker who can freestyle.... go with the gift of gab, aka the mc from blackalicious. now there's a motherfucker who can do it... on this one you literally get bored of him being able to do it so damn well when he keeps ramping up the speed and all that. he's the best i've ever heard @ it, personally. when i get in a groove i can prolly do it at ~75% of this.

Doesn't scream two hard core thugs to me, Sini.

good call, man... seriously you got me pwnd with that one cuz for the longest time popular rap has been kind of a joke.... i mean, even tupac has plenty of old interviews out there where your gaydar would break out of sheer principle... and the sad thing is he's 5-10 times the rapper than biggie ever was, lyrically speaking.

i don't think rap beefs are ever good unless they're some weird trivial underground shit that nobody cares about. like, for example, when local white chicago rapping matlock decided to go after the molemen.

i found out when i decided to comically diss the whole galapagos4 record label that like, there's only so many ways you can go and call the guy who made "cliche" (qwel) fat and gay, you know?

ideally, it should something like a black version of mad max versus thugnificient.

(incidentally, if you're not following whoever's running the @thugnificient account on twitter you're really missing out)

If somebody has talent isn't that what matters?

you know what, in the spirit of imu's lame attempt at calling me an overweight wigger and spmack's really really good 10/10 post calling me out for my rap stereotypes/archetypes/etc, i'd like to share an epiphany i had about gangsta/popular rap something like ~6 years ago.

i got really really high and listened to something on sirius' backspin43 (RIP. seriously, i used to keep a notepad by my sirius radio so when there was another dope oldschool cut i needed to get on vinyl i could write it on the list. within a month or so the list was like ~5 pages long front and back. that channel helped me stock up my rap vinyl collection bigtime. THE KURTIS BLOW SHOW, YA HERD?!?!)

ahem. so anywyas i'm high as shit and some shit like scarface's "i killed a man" comes on backspin43 and i started spit-taking and laughing uncontrollably... like seriously, not quite as much as when i fell into the snow and made deformed snow angels the first time i heard mc brains oochie coochie, but like, i was laughing in uncontrollable fits of rage like i'm gonna die like the weasel in who framed roger rabbit. that's when it hit me: RAP IS COMPLETE AND UTTER BULLSHIT. when you're talking about rap on a bigtime commercial scale, everyone is phony as shit and doing hteir best to make up this image/facade of being hardcore/dangerous/etc and it's all complete and utter horseshit meant to appeal to the ghetto pride of innercity blacks and thusly sell records to suburban white people... it's all a fucking joke.

and incidentally, when imu wants to call me a fucking fat wigger and make fun of my rap cred... i offer the following picture which will immediately dispel any attempts imu could ever muster and get me infinite cred in "the community"....

no, it doesn't matter at all, in fact, it would be a hinderance to what you NEED TO DO in the rap game. ask kreayshawn.

dude, KI.... real talk here man, let's sit down and be honest with each other and get some human discourse accomplished:

the little wayne effect on "the rap game" is that nowadays you don't need to have any sort of discernible skill or talent to succeed in the rap game, in fact, like i said with kreayshawn it's a hinderance to your success.

jackson pollock couldn't paint a picture to save his life... nad yet, when life magazine DARED to ask circa ~1951 if he was the greatest living painter i nthe united states, the conversation was begun.,.. jackson pollock inexorably became the greatest living painter in the united states of america even tho he technically couldn't paint... that's all it takes. as far as i know, one of his odes to dadaism sold ofr $120mil in ~1990 or something and that's still the record for most $$$ spent on a painting.

the modern day equivalent is that dumbass sprite commerical where drake comes out like LAST NAME EVER, FIRST NAME GREATEST.... and that's all thanks to little wayne coming out with absolutely not even so much as a modicum of skill and/or talent and being called the best i nthe game by magazines... because like, here's a shocker, most people don't know rap... and most people who tell you that they love rap don't even actually like real rap... they like pop music that just happens to feature shirtless tatted up black guys who sound like they're rapping with a dick in their mouth saying they're the greatest thing in the game, and when mtv/magazines/the-combine-from-one-flew-over-the-cuckoos-nest backs it up... well it's all a giant fait accompli.

so long story short, don't delude milady spaulding, our ex-poster of the year, into thinking that if she's got the passion talent and desire she'll make it.... pfft. she'll sooner make it if she pledges allegiance to satan and makes a rap song about problems she's had with her vagina in her lifetime.... and lamentably, i'm not even joking.

I'd prefer to make a song about my vagina being great. I think it would make me more marketable and of course artistic integrity purposes.

I was moreso speaking on your " They look like this, hehe" comment, which you quickly backed off of btw.

What is someone judged your skills or credibility based on your look?

The rest of that stuff you typed has nothing to do with anything...

umm..... is that supposed to be good?

If its making fun of Drake Im going to like it most often.

And as far as the youtube Aceyalone comment I posted that thinking you would give me shit.

But I really was looking because the few songs I downloaded (Mic Check, The greatest show on earth) havent captured whatever he had in that freestyle on the wake up show. I listen to that freestyle almost daily now. None of the album stuff that ive heard measures up.

Looks in rap beefs can be decieving. I mean people loved Easy E vs Dre and there is no shortage of gay pics of Dr Dre.

But maybe Drake being Drake just makes it terrible

i take it you meant "if" instead of "is" in the last line there... and well, you have a shining example of that phenomenon happening all the fucking time with imu's post near the bottom of the previous page. my skills and credibility were approximated to be that of a morbidly obese white guy in a bandana.

that happens all the time... it's just the way it is. the only way i "backed off" of the comment was acknowledging spmack's sagelike point that pop rappers have ALWAYS looked like weird fags, and that's just the way it is... that's what sells. if i started spouting out reasons as to WHY its like that, well, then i'm afraid i'd REALLY have my skills or credibility judged to the point that i wish i could have them based on my looks.

and spaulding pwnd the shit out of me cuz she's really right, idk what i was thinking, but i think we all got the point i was trying to make... the key is the allegiance to satan part, cuz like, i nearly shit my britches the other day when i was watching youtube videos on a ps3 and i saw the newest lyrics born video featuring him doing those OK/666 handsignals for extended periods of time.... they got 1/2 of latyrx. lateef does songs about bitches so he's prolly close or doing it too... and really, alls i'm going to be left with is aceyalone and blackalicious to hold up before i completely crumble.

incidentally, i'd love to see some rapper have a beef with pharoahe monch. it'll never fucking happen, cuz he'd 98%-likely admonish any homo who stepped to him, but like... that'd be some hilarious shit. the most "real" lyricists out there will never have a serious "beef" because it's not good for business.... ask jay-z

(but then again jay-z is the king homo of the rap game seeing as i don't think anyone has had any reason to care about puff daddy for 10 years, so it'd make sense he'd say shit like that cuz in the end it's all about MOVIN UNITS, SON)
