They didn't provide the info about Ronnie Woo Woo running the board.

IMO....looks pretty "weak" / "lame". Maybe it is just the rendition that SUCKS. I'm all for more technology / video boards though...but I don't like the looks of what is being represented.

The Cubs need to do anything to make improvements to Wrigley and get advertising dollars.

No don't do that, that sucks!

People dont go to the Cubs game to get pertinent information about what is going on with the game. They go to get plastered. This crap is unnecessary. Just win a damned championship.

Advertising dollars are going towards the debt of the Ricketts.

I've always felt the Cubs should have bought the properties around the outfield and then just sell tickets to the rooftops as they would stadium seating.

A few years ago the Cubs threatened the rooftop owners...either "share" your revenue, or we block your view of the game & your out of business. The Cubs make $ on rooftop ticket sales. Its almost as good as in stadium seats.
The Cubs aren't looking for conflict with the rooftop owners.

Think about this...you could have bought any of the rooftop building for about $80K in 1980.

Which is the equivalent of about $415,000 now.

Still not a bad deal.

He owns the team. Like it or not the financial situation of one is the financial situation of the other. I'm all for having a long relationship between the person and the organization, one filled with years of both winning and profitability. And that should be easy, as the two are usually linked.

I understand completely. Im just saying that its going to be a while before it makes financial sense to make heavier investments in payroll because the balance sheet is so far off on debt. Some debt is okay, but correct me if I am wrong but he has a lot more than just "some debt". They are investing in equitable improvements, buying the McDonalds land and doing park improvements. All of that is to offset the balance sheet, not improve the roster of the team. Eventually it will though, by or around 2016.

I dont know about that. From the Cubs point of view, each of those rooftop owners make money off the rooftop customers because the customers watch a live Cubs game in a similar fashion to paid attendees of Wrigley Field. The rooftop owners are supplying a service and getting the Cubs product free. As a rooftop owner, I dont want to start paying for the Cubs product because it eats into the revenue. Therefore, there is a stalemate and the Cubs organization as a owner of the product is going to try to get money and therefore have to resort to conflict. The rooftop owners are not just going to willingly give up revenue.

Just another step toward killing the golden goose. The rooftops are part of the charm. Once the "Wrigley Field experience" is ruined you're just another shitty ball club.

How does this affect the charm of the rooftops? This doesn't change anything for them. It certainly doesn't lessen the experience.

Maybe it doesn't. It remains to be seen. I was really referencing the people with Baby McNown's attitude of "fuck the rooftops".

Some people think that park is full most of the time because "the Cubs are one of the most popular teams". And that's something I don't agree with. That was NEVER the case before the McDonough marketing machine began selling "the Wrigley Experience". There are a lot of little aspects that are each small pieces of that experience. They won't be destroyed all at once. Each piece will be eliminated in the interest of some other goal and one day you'll look up and the only part of the experience left will be the location, which, admittedly, may be the most important piece. But eventually, some genius will decide a new location opens more revenue streams and they'll foolishly put the team back on equal footing with the White Sox.

Some groups, mostly corporate, enjoy the benefits of rooftop viewing parties. It is a win / win. I don't know if this Budweiser deck will add seating...but hopefully it costs much more than the current right field bleachers...they need to make up income somehow or another.

It's particularly a win for the Cubs. If some operator offered to take over the whole damn team and send Ricketts 17% of all income in return, Ricketts would be a damn fool not to go along with that. At least from strictly a business perspective. Of course, we all know that it's more than just the money. Running a ballclub is an ego thing for a lot of rich guys.

That's what Bernstein does't seem to understand. He talks about ending "all that silly Cubs bullshit" endlessly, but what he apparently fails to realize is that that bullshit is the only thing standing in the way of this being just another franchise -and a particularly horrible one, performance wise-, at that.

I find it exceedingly funny that a bunch of guys who have never sat in the bleachers have such strong opinions on the way things ought to be out there. When it comes to this topic the B&B Show is like a guy who never eats at a restaurant insisting the chef make changes to the menu.

considering they have seats out there now and it s the Bud Light Bleachers, not sure how much more they are getting from this.

One thing is that those seats are amazingly small. I know I am not a small guy but could barely squeeze into the seats. No doubt much smaller than the regular seats. Had one guy who had to stand the whole game, had no shot at fitting in those seats, yes, he is tipping to the 3 elbows upside

That's one of the dirty little secrets of the bleachers. I think we've had this conversation here before. They oversell them for sure and even if they didn't, the average person takes up more than one spot. I've sat out there countless times so I know what the deal is, but I've seen people come from out of town expecting that having a ticket meant they had a seat and that obviously isn't the case. There have been times I felt sorry for the security guy out there patiently explaining over and over again how it works to disappointed fans. I get out there early enough to get the seat I want all the way at the top in rightfield. I'm not going to take up three seats, but I'm also not going to sit on someone's lap so a guy that didn't want to stand in line can waltz in at game time and squeeze in next to me.

I just really found it fascinating to listen to bernstein and Goff discuss it today when neither of them has ever sat out there. But they have very strong opinions on what goes on out there and what should go on out there. Why can't they apply the "if you don't like it, don't listen" philosophy to other things? If you find the bleacher culture ridiculous, go sit in a skybox at a Bulls game.
