man... just... fuck. next time i have a beer, some will be poured out for the guy. can't say that i was ever a huge soultrain guy, but i know what he was to soultrain, and what soultrain was to african-american culture (read: hands down bar none at its core the coolest culture in the world. pity it's taken a hit or two (literally) from the 90's gangsta rap and whatever you wanna call the 00's post-weezy rap) and yeah. this is a sad day for people with "soul" everywhere.

Not true. Have you heard of this thing called Google?

You did the same thing yesterday with Hendry.

What don't you understand about when I saw he died, the only thing I could find was headlines with no stories? I'm sure you can find them NOW.

Whoa. Holy shit! That adds a different dynamic to the story.

Yeah, it would've been nice if BC had included that part originally.

He was 75. Maybe he found out he had inoperable cancer or Alzhiemer's or something and figured why spend the last weeks/months of his life suffering?

And BC, this is why you should include a link with these types of posts. The dude shot himself which, as Kid correctly points out, gives an entirely different feel to this event.

Where's the peace and love with shooting yourself in the head?

All my childhood dreams are shattered.

I forgot that Soul Train originated from our own WCIU-Channel 26.
I stood on the Soul Train set when I visited California. I was shocked
at how small it was. It's taped right across from the Entertainment Tonight set (also tiny)

As for Don Cornelius,I watched Soul Train a lot as a kid. I thought he was one cool dude. It's a shame
how people fade from memory and maybe a lot of "stars" can't handle not being relevant anymore.
Maybe not the case with Don but I don't know why he chose to end his life.
I hope he rests in peace!

There was a VH1-produced documentary that aired last year on WCIU 26 The U called "Soul Train: The Hippest Trip in America". There was quite a battle between Cornelius' own show & Dick Clark's "American Bandstand" in the '70s in regards to talent based on what I saw in this 90 minute documentary. In plain English, if a specific artist appeared on "Soul Train", that same artist wouldn't do "Bandstand".

As for the set, they used to tape at Paramount Studios in Hollywood before original episodes ceased production, I think in 2003.

If you're looking for reruns of the classic music show, I've got you covered. BET's Centric, DIRECTV 330, airs classic episodes of the legendary "Train". As the old saying goes, check your local listings for times.

BET Classic? Not sure I have that. Centric, RP Bryan, airs reruns of "Soul Train", and I get that on DIRECTV 330. That channel used to be called BET Jazz.
