Signed up. Anyone else?

Decided to do it as part of Team One Step Camp. Figured whenever I'm feeling lazy, hopefully the kids with cancer thing will be good inspiration

I'm happy you want to get in shape and help kids but piss off for shutting down my streets for your vanity project.

Can't they just close like 4 blocks and have the runners circle these streets over and over?

Sister-in-law ran this last year. I will likely be merely a spectator.

Correct. The other one is slow and lazy.

Naked marathon running would probably not be good, sorry.

Still debating if I want to run this. I really would rather stick to half marathons. Such an easy recovery and not a ton of time to commit for training.

Passing on Chicago this year. Plan instead on doing Marine Corp (DC) on October 28. However sign up for that one is not until March 7 so if I cannot get into that one then I likely will be shut out of Chicago since signups are already at 30,000 -- just 2 days after it opened. Fall fallbacks include either Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Columbus or St. Charles (last resort). In any event I will volunteer at Chicago; handing out water at the 1st water stop on Dearborn.

Already have Champaign on the spring docket -- April 28. And weather permitting the Lakefront 50k on March 31.

Why can't you just decide to run the miles in the forest preserve some weekend?

Why do people spend $8 in a bar for a drink they can make at home for $1 or $40 for a steak in a restaurant they can make at home for $4?

The experience.

Be it the energy from the crowds in the various neighborhoods of Chicago, running past the blooming mustard plants in the vineyards of Napa, crossing the famed Bixby Bridge at Big Sur, hearing the howl of the banshees as you approach the Wellesley College scream tunnel at Boston to finishing on the field at the Louisiana Superdome or Memorial Stadium in Champaign, the experience and the emotional highs and lows of running a marathon are like like no other.

I started running 13 years ago to try to loose weight. It worked but I would have quit from boredom long ago if I hadn't started doing races. For me committing to and preparing for marathons is what gives the whole running thing purpose.

I just got in from doing 16 this morning. No way I would have done that if I did not have March 31 and April 28 circled on my calendar.

I often look at cost per mile.

Chicago Marathon at $5.76 per mile yes getting expensive.

However Soldier Field 10 miler, at $80, is $8 per mile!

Shamrock Shuffle is now $9 per mile!

By comparison, Champaign marathon early registration was $70, or $2.69 per mile.

Biggest bargain in running? Spring and Fall Lakefront 50k. Early registration $40, or $1.29 per mile.

nobody's running 26 miles on any other day of the year unless they're involved in some kind of caper.

Fundraising page is up. I'd greatly appreciate anything you could spare. I'm told 100% goes straight to the kids. Thank you

My favorite time of year is when good dolphin channels all of his righteous anger on this ridiculous event.

I heard this morning it is going to be broadcast on the Score, I'm sure GD will be gathered around the old radio with the family with the excitement of Christmas morning.

The marathon is only the 4th worst thing broadcast on the score well behind Sox Baseball, NIU football and DePaul basektball. Hell it is the 5th worst if you count Mully and Hanley. Still terrible though.

For me, it's second only to MOFO's stage-by-stage Tour de EPO updates.
