For as bad as the KISS Demon gimmick was, Dale Torborg wasn't actually terrible.

Prince Iaukea was the worst active wrestler of my lifetime. Name me another wrestler who sucked at EVERYTHING he ever did.

I'll see your KISS Demon and raise you a Norman Smiley Demon.

I was about 8-10 beers deep about a month ago listening to KISS and wondering why they never did a KISS gimmick in rasslin. When I realized they did, I couldn't figure out how it didn't get over.

Top Black Wrestlers

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling
Torborg appeared with White Sox catcher A.J. Pierzynski on a episode of TNA Impact! on December 8, 2005. Along with veteran wrestling manager and color commentator Bobby Heenan. Torborg and Pierzynski presented A.J. Styles, Chris Sabin and Sonjay Dutt with memorabilia from the 2005 World Series until they were interrupted by The Diamonds in the Rough. Simon Diamond, the leader of the Diamonds and himself a former baseball player, mocked Pierzynski's .256 batting average, telling him that he needed a designated hitter. Diamond then slapped Torborg, leading to a brawl. As a result, Torborg, Sabin and Dutt, with Pierzynski in their corner, faced the Diamonds at TNA Turning Point 2005 on December 11. At Turning Point, Dutt pinned Diamond following interference from then-Boston Red Sox outfielder Johnny Damon.
On the January 18, 2007 edition of iMPACT!, Pierzynski and Torborg attacked Lance Hoyt, helping James Storm win, who was also aided by Miss Tennessee.[4] At Against All Odds 2007 Torborg, with Pierzynski in his corner, was defeated by Hoyt, who had David Eckstein in his corner.[1] Torborg and Pierzynski's appearance were some of the highest rated episodes for TNA.[5]
[edit]

Baseball coaching

Torborg left wrestling and joined the Montreal Expos as a strength coach, when WCW was purchased by the World Wrestling Federation in March 2001, and retired from professional wrestling in 2002.
Afterwards, Torborg became the conditioning coach for the Florida Marlins. His father Jeff was the manager for the team as well. He made news when he scared Marlins pitcher Antonio Alfonseca into hiding in a trainer's room after Alfonseca berated him and made fun of his prior career as a professional wrestler while refusing Torborg's request for a weigh-in.
In January 2004, Dale was hired by the Chicago White Sox baseball team as a roving strength trainer. Torborg has been a part of two World Champion baseball teams: 2003 Marlins and 2005 White Sox.
Torborg had a small role in the Transporter 2, as well as numerous commercials over his acting career. He also worked with Tom Selleck for the movie Mr. Baseball, as well as with Madonna and Geena Davis for the movie A League of their Own.

actually, i think koko is under rated. he's not that bad really. and piledriver was awesome.

I failed to list 2 Cold. He's prob my #1 and I forgot. 2011 Mark Henry was great, Elix Skipper was ok. Kenny King in ROH is very good too.

I should also take this opportunity to say that until about 2 months ago, I thought Marc Mero was black.

The Rock is obviously the easy answer for #1. And I am a HUGE fan of The Rock. But I think an good case could be made for JYD to be up there as well. Guy had it all, especially when you consider what he accomplished in his pre-WWF days. He was a legend during his territory days. If he was in his prime during a later time period he would have been a multi-time World Champ.

Also, I think a shoutout is needed for guys like Dusty and Cowboy Watts would had the courage to push guys like JYD and Ron Simmons back in a time when it was going against the grain of how things had always been done.

On the legends series video one of the things I found the most interesting was hearing how some of the biggest problems for black wrestlers back in the day did not come so much from the white people as the other black wrestlers who saw them as a threat to their spot.

I noticed that when I watched the AWA DVD. The only person I can think of is Greg Gagne.

I wouldn't say JYD had it "all". While he had charisma and drew money for Watts, even at his best he was FAR from good in the ring.

Great link Bob, thanks.

Tunderbolt Patterson was one of the guys said to be against having other black guys around. Teddy Long said he told him straight up they did not need any other n****** on the card and that was going to be the only one.

I've seen a couple of matches here and there. Just never was impressed with his in-ring work. Let the record show, I had him top-five though.

 That's why I didn't list the Rock, I just wasn't gonna invite the heat.

If we're talking race in wrasslin, this is a must watch.

Sputnik Monroe and racial segregation in Memphis. Arrested and fined for hanging out with black folks, but kept championing the cause, etc. Flat out scary, just sad in 1958.

Butch Reed actually wrestled in the AWA. He briefly was Jimmy Garvin's bodyguard.

Tony Atlas was mentioned in Bix's article.

Ernie Ladd and Earl Maynard were an AWA tag team in 1967. Fast forward ten years or so and Rufus R Jones was in the AWA. Sailor Art Thomas and Bobo Brazil made sporadic appearances for the AWA in Milwaukee.

During the latter portion of the AWA's run on ESPN, Derrick Dukes was in the AWA. Y'all might remember him better as the "boxer" that took a dive for Mark Gastineau.
