This is covered in the comics. A character states that a gunshot causes a domino effect whereby all the zombies in the area (2 mile radius or so) will hear the sound and start moving towards it. Other zombies will hear the zombies moving and start following them. And so on and so on until you have a herd of zombies. They will continue walking in the direction of the gunfire until they are led a different direction by a different sound, so theoretically they could follow a single gunshot for eternity.

Good point. The same theory is expressed in World War Z with the "moaners" and "screamers" signaling each other like a sort of alarm.

Last 5 minutes saved this episode. Just happy it is back on TV. Interesting thoughts by everyone here,
I enjoyed reading everyone's thoughts.

They can't blow their load too early on every episode, though.

The whole key to a successful zombie survival story is examining how the main characters deal with the conflict. It helps establish a connection with the audience and provides the opportunity for people to ask "why are they doing that" or "that's exactly what I would do in that situation".

The show would get pretty bland if we just had show after show of non-stop violence and walker attacks.

I never watched Lost, so I will take your word for that.

I do agree that this whole time on the farm seems a bit drawn out. I wish there was a little more explanation behind the origin of the infection or what other parts of the world are doing to respond to the threat. I understand that the show focuses on the survival on one specific group of people, but it doesn't seem like there is any concern or question as to why zombies exist in the first place.

I loved the plot surrounding the CDC last season, for example. You had the crazed scientist attempting to answer the major question of infection, theories getting thrown around, etc.

That might just be my individual preference for this type of story, though.

common sense would tell you to head to the less heavily populated areas where there is less dead. and why not dig a trench on the perimeter of the home..the dead seem very easy to trap/kill

The last 10 minutes of the episode really bothered me. It just didn't make any sense from a character point of view. It was like the writers were trying to fast forward Rick's character to a point he hadn't naturally arrived at yet. There is no doubt that as the show goes on they will have some very bad run ins with fellow survivors and they will learn to distrust people and shoot first/ask questions later, but at this point in the story they hadn't been burned by outsiders to the point where Rick would immediately be on his guard vs a couple new people and end up shooting them within 5 minutes.

From a character development pov, that scene made no sense. Those guys didn't really do anything to warrant that level of mistrust and suspicion. At some point in the series, everyone they run into will warrant that level of mistrust, but at this point there was really no reason for Rick and co to be that weary of them. \

Some very poor writing/storytelling imo, hopefully this is not a sign of things to come now that we have hit the part of the series where Dalembert is no longer working on the show.

I see where you're coming from, but I'm going to disagree.

1.) The episode and 2nd season up to this point was Rick not believing in himself as a leader/father etc, he was soft to a certain extent w/ Shane handling the dirty work. He took heat for the zombies in the barn, for leading everyone on a unicorn hunt and all of that...To me, him killing those two men was his reaction to his prior perceived failures. He wasn't about to be "nice and measured" when there was danger afoot. Not this time.

2.)Those guys were shady as hell, Rick saw those looks they were giving each other and coupled with their questioning about "who what where" and the digging for more specifics led Rick to distrust them. The drawing of the guns, the yelling with the fat fuck and Rick just being on guard/cop instincts is what led to the finish.

3.)Rick had just had it. His body language/words, to me at least, said that he went into defensive mode.

The scene made sense to me

The Clutch song that closed the new episode was pretty sweet.

Neither did I.

Maybe because most of the episode didn't focus on the Farm as much.

I didn't get to see this one so look forward to breaking it down tonight. I had it on but was on the
phone so didn't get to pay attention. Looked promising.

Good 2 ep. so far. Solid tension and all the good stuff...some gore, some guns and conflict all around.

Andrea needs to get dead, soon.

Shane is right at time and wrong in others, I don't get why people were upset that he lied to Ricks wife to get her back to the farm. That woman is an idiot. She gets mad at Rick for leaving to find Herschal so.....she goes off on her own, without a clue as to where the town is, she doesn't tell anyone either and she's fucking pregnant.....everyone should be mad at her, not Shane.

I don't think anyone besides Lori and Dale were mad at him for lying.

Dale and Lori know about Otis. The Farm family hates him because of what he did at the barn. But most of the others seem to think like Andrea, that Shane is right but needs to be more convincing.

Yeah, you're right. I think im letting my hatred of Annoying DumbFace Andrea cloud my vision. Her and Ricks wife need to be eaten.

But we finally have the group war being set up.

I thought Ricks wife was definitely going to get bitten once she got out of the car and figured once she started
taking her clothes off Rick would see she had a previously unnoticed bite. Sadly this was not the case. I wasn't
paying much attention to the episode so I will be rewatching this tonight to pick up on everything I missed.

i don't understand how that douche dale and now that skinny bitch are so confident in saying shane killed otis ..nobody was there ..no witnesses and no evidence..not hard to believe that someone died on a risky mission ..it happens pretty much every week. shane has never elaborated and just stuck to his "otis died a hero"

Great episode I thought. I like the added element of fighting against the living in addition to the zombie horde. Everything seems to be turning towards "group breakdown mode", which I think should make the episodes more interesting.

However, I am beginning to really hate Rick's wife more and more as the show continues. It seems her only purpose is to be around to drive Shane nuts (yarr) and give Rick more reason to act irrationally. The whole scene in the tent with her and Rick was just weird, as if she was trying to convince Rick to either harm Shane or kick him out of the group.

Shane said to Lori last night "You know why Otis died? He died for you and for Carl. Because I love you."

And when Dale told Shane what he thought, Shane told him "So what? What're you gonna do about it?"

She was trying to get through to Rick that Shane is irrational and dangerous. That Shane still loves her and will kill for her.

One way or the other I don't think Shane is long for the show.

In the jungle when he was speaking to Dale...it was in one of the last couple episodes before the mid-season break.

Dale had brought that up to Lori, and when Lori confronted him yesterday...he again went with the 'I did what had to be done' angle...paraphrased of course.

IMU got me on the pay no mind list....

He all but admitted it to both of them...were you not paying attention?

i agree that last night shane seemed to admit it, but i am with 312player on this. i never understood how dale was able to so confidently leap to the conclusion that shane sacrificed otis and convince others based on nothing but a hunch and the fact he hates shane.
