He may be better than Forte but he's not 2 to 3 times better. That's how much more money he is likely to get. Forte is a top 5 running back. Before getting hurt he was producing better than any other back when it came to yards.

Spanky and several other posters still owe me an apology after mocking me when I predicted how great he was going to be.

Forte has been consistently good on bad offense. He is responsible for 40% of the production. All of this with bad offensive lines and receivers. No one else in your top 5 can say that.

If they could sign both Foster and Forte, that'd be ideal.

i don't think the bears can franchise foster..i believe that only his current team can do that..but so what if he gets a 4 years 32 million dollar deal and 20 is guaranteed ..same as forte an he is better and more durable...forte is not a top 5 back he is not even top 10..demarco murray had an outstanding 7 game run too

1. Adrian Peterson (63) Minnesota Vikings
2. Chris Johnson (61) Tennessee Titans
3. Arian Foster (48) Houston Texans
4. Jamaal Charles (46) Kansas City Chiefs
5. Michael Turner (36) Atlanta Falcons
6. Maurice Jones-Drew (30) Jaguars
7. Steven Jackson (25) St. Louis Rams
8. Ray Rice (24) Baltimore Ravens
9. Frank Gore (15) San Francisco 49ers
T10. LeSean McCoy (9) Philadelphia Eagles
put mcfadden 11

Wrong. Spending huge money on a Running Back is foolish. Ask the Titans.

^^ truth. also, look at how relatively-well ben tate did early in the season when arian foster was dinged up.... i reckon a decent % of his !!! production is from that texans system/line, so how it'd translate behind some moderately/upgraded version of this bears offensive line is what donald rumsfeld would term "a known unknown"

seriously, i was never OMFG WOOO!!! over forte, but i gotta give the guy some props that he handled his business this year behind an offensive line that truly lived up to the word "offensive." also, forte's pretty solid @ passblocking... how is foster with that?

Pretty sure I've never said that 312Rick.

You said LaGarrette Blount was better than Forte. Why are you talking about the NFL?

It's pretty common knowledge that you can't franchise tag another team's player.

This

The whole reason this Forte situation exists is you dont wanna pay big money to a RB. Paying Foster is as bad as paying Forte.

Production at the RB spot is not the issue. Allocating too much money to the RB spot is the issue.

There is really no reason to pay big money to a RB in today's NFL

This is a good conversation. I think the Bears would have a great chance of talking an RB who could make his money anywhere to come and run behind one of the worst OL in the league.

The Bears will franchise Forte. He will bitch and hold out a little but ultimately get into camp and play. There is nothing else to report.

I agree with your thoughts here. Solid offensive linemen and receivers can be productive for 10 years. Running backs give you about 4 good years, if you're lucky. And during those years, they often miss games. If you have a solid offensive line, then you increase your chances that any decent NFL running back can be plugged into the offense.

Chris Johnson was viewed as "Special" too

The difference between top tier running back production and mid level rb production is just not enough to warrant a big pay day.

Kinda like first baseman in baseball.

i agree on not spending big on the position..i don't want the bears to give forte a 3 or 4 year deal...tagged for a year and dump him fine .. but if you are going to give forte a 4 year deal..id rather it be foster...just because you are 40% of a bad offense does not make you great.. it probably means that your tight ends blow and you throw alot of screens and dump off passes to your back...chris johnson will bounce back huge this year..the guy is a great back

Good luck Texans.

Texans sign Arian Foster to five-year deal
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 5, 2012, 8:33 AM EST

Arian Foster won’t be going anywhere.

The Houston Texans and Foster have agreed to a five-year contract extension, as confirmed by Foster’s agent, Mike McCartney, on Twitter.

There’s no word on how much money the Texans will be paying Foster, but this will be an interesting contract to see: After disappointing seasons from big-money running backs last year, NFL teams are generally expected to be hesitant to sign running backs to long-term deals this year. But the 25-year-old Foster and the Texans have found common ground on a contract that will keep him in the fold until he’s 30.

Foster is coming off a 2011 season in which he missed three games and was slowed by hamstring injuries in others, but still managed to run the ball 278 times for 1,224 yards and 10 touchdowns, and catch 53 passes for another 617 yards and two touchdowns.
