What I don't understand is why the second test means nothing. I am not a PED expert but it seems they would not clear your body in a few days. Why didn't the second test fail? Also, why not take two samples at the first time and send them to two different labs in separate packages to remove all doubt?

PHOENIX — Saying “my name has been dragged through the mud,” NL MVP Ryan Braun has reported to spring training with the Milwaukee Brewers a day after his 50-game suspension for a positive drug test was overturned by an arbitrator.

Braun’s teammates sat in the stands, in uniform, as he held a news conference Friday on the field at the team’s spring training complex.

Braun criticized the media for leaks of the positive test, saying that for the person accused, it means “you’re 100 percent guilty until proven innocent.” But, he says, “at the end of the day the truth prevailed.”

He says, “I would bet my life the substance never entered my body at any point.”

Braun tested positive in October for elevated testosterone.

Seems like he is denying taking anything illegal.

While I really could give a shit about Ryan Braun, I do want to point something out.

Corticosteroids can, in fact, increase testosterone.

While corticosteroids are primarily used as an anti-inflammatory in most medicines, they are still a form of synthetic steroid. Depending on the type and dosage of corticosteroid, testosterone levels have been known to increase in some cases. This side-effect is seen in many prescription drugs in the form of lowered libido due to an imbalance in testosterone.

Just as an example, males who receive cortizone shots sometimes struggle with their libido while the drug is in their system.

Whether or not this happened to Braun as a result of his herpes medication, I do not know.

In his press conference he denied there was ever any STD or anything of the such, but who knows.

I am willing to let him off as long he acknowledges it was for his herpes. He can't have it both ways. Either he did for the team or for the herpes. Using herpes as an excuse and then not acknowledging it as an excuse is ridiculous.

Rick just because they got off on a technicality doesnt mean he's guilty

Lots of innoncent people have gotten mistrials.

No, failing the drug test meant he's guilty. Now, when the test taker gets put in jail for shooting steroids into the sample I'll be willing to apologize to him and admit he was innocent. However, I don't even think that is Braun's defense.

He still failed a drug test. He just got those results thrown out. I guess we'll see where he goes from here. If he was truly done in by someone attempting to destroy him by modifying the results then he should file criminal and civil charges against them. I doubt he does though. He'll just use the technicality to convince people that it wasn't real.

If I'm going to demonize people like Bonds and Clemens and Sosa I have to do the same with Braun. That's why I wish that Congress would call him and make him testify. Let's see if he's willing to claim he never took steroids with federal prison sentences on the line.

Thats ridiculous. You are of the opinion that these tests are infallible? There are a ton of factors that can contribute to a failed test. It happens in drug tests across the drug testing industry. Opium from Poppi Seeds etc.

According to every other test ever taken and the circumstantial evidence Braun is clean.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but I would assume it isn't beyond the realm of possibility that the current MLB drug policy may have some flaws that could both include and exclude substances that do not improve athletic performance at all.

If anything, this Braun story will likely improve the process moving forward.

It's tough to say but 25 drug tests passed,no issues. His speed and other variables not changed over the course of his career BUT than again,maybe he thought he would try a little "something" during the playoffs.

He didn't win his appeal based on the test being incorrect though but that the chain of custody was incorrect. In fact, I'm pretty sure that he acknowledges that the physical results of it are accurate and that steroids were present but that he never took them. As I mentioned, when the test taker goes to jail for this I'll apologize. However, I put that at about a 1% chance of happening so I'll take that as him still being guilty.
Common sense would indicate that the test taker had no reason to modify his urine and frame him. Why would the test taker do that? There is more evidence that he did steroids than Sosa.

This was a technicality that got him off. The test wouldn't have changed by sitting in a refrigerator for a weekend unless it was modified. If it was modified, someone is going to jail for this or at worst Braun will sue him and clear his name.

Lance Armstrong has supposedly never failed a test either, and those guys get tested constantly.

Passing a bunch of other tests would be like saying "He didn't murder anyone 25 other days, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he didn't murder someone that day".
