Good defenseman. Just acquired from the Peg.

What they needed was a better backup goalie, or a new starting goalie. Because THEY'RE TERRIBLE

2nd and 3rd round pick in 2013 for an expiring contract who will most likely play 3rd pairing minutes.

Unimpressed

Oduya is good enough to be top 4. He's a good deadline pickup.

You like him more than I do.

Moving 2 picks, albeit in 2013 which will hopefully be bad picks, seems like a lot for a guy who might not lessen Leddy's load coupled with the fact the team has no control after this season.

Barring injury, he lessens Leddys load.

And, given his track record, Bowman will sign him to a 5 year deal this summer and call him part of the core.

You really don't like Oduya? We gave up......nothing?

Doesn't Leddy's girlfriend lessen his load?

He's not bad. I'm not saying that. I don't think he's the piece that lets us win a playoff series.

Being that he's a UFA after this year, if Stan really liked him, he could have signed him then without giving up a thing.

Feels like a move to make a move at this point.

I agree. The gays are really everywhere now.

Next rumor is Derek Roy to the Hawks.

Don't fucking tease me.

Those were 2013 picks. Not 2012.

I was never a Happy Scott fan, but he did provide a moment that's still on my DVR.

XM's Center Ice was shredding Stan for the Oduya deal since he basically paid more for him than the Flyers paid for Kubina because he waited too long.

On top of it, the guy is an UFA so they probably will lose him at the end of the year. Not sure how to feel yet about Bowman. Going to give him another year before I turn into another of the meatheads calling for his head.

So long as this ends the 'we need another defensemen' discussion, I'm all for it. Plus flexibility with pairings is always a good thing...

It was a lot to give up, but renting a Dman is a high price to pay these days, and it's not like the Hawks gave up a first for Paul Gaustad

No, for realsies, Nashville actually gave up a first round draft pick for Paul freaking Gaustad

Which one of John Scott's 2 points as a Hawk was your favorite? Which injury that he helped prevent by being on the team did you appreciate most?

Seemed like a nice guy and all, but he isn't a good hockey player.

Bollig will do a good job in the same role. Not that you get a lot for a 5th rounder, but you lose some salary in it.

Agreed. I like good guys but would have liked it if he could skate. My son liked him a lot.

John Scott was bullshit. He either didn't dress at all or he played like three minutes a game, which put undue stress on everyone else's minutes. How many games this year and last did we, in effect, dress five defensemen? Too many. No wonder Duncan Keith is such a bag of shit now.

Hard to "enforce" when you're barely on the ice in the few games you're even dressed for. For someone who allegedly strikes fear in the hearts of men, our guys get their asses kicked on what's virtually a nightly basis. No one minds taking headshots against the Hawks because no one beats the shit out of them if they do, and any Chicago power plays that might result from taking liberties against them just lead to endless dithering at the perimeter and shorthanded breakaways. And the one time John Scott actually beat the shit out of a guy for a dirty hit, which was the Derek Engelland hit on Kruger, Pittsburgh got the power play (and power play goal) because Scott "instigated."

Overall, the "grit" experiment was a failure, because they're still being coached to instead punish on the power play, which would be terrific if they had any fucking clue in the world how to run a power play. What a mess.

Not that it would've happened anyway because hardly anyone does it, but the Hawks can't sign other teams' restricted free agents this summer, having dealt their 2013 second round pick, which is the compensation for a 2012 RFA.

Kinda like shakes, except for the nice guy part.
