That will also be the reason for Rick taking such a cautious role and not wanting to put anyone in danger. He doesn't want to have to face his friends and family as zombies. Also explains why he was so bent on staying at the farm.

If I became a zombie I would definitely make you my first meal, Terry'sPeeps.

Logic dictates that to combat this people would then burn their dead / chop the head off. When each and every person does, society then takes care of any possible future zombies by dealing with the dead body immediately after it becomes a dead body. Zombies don't become zombies immediately after - we saw this with Andrea's sister. It takes awhile...and when they do "turn", it comes on extremely slowly.

.

two points:

Chopping off the head of a zombie does not kill the zombie. The only way to kill it is to destroy the brain. We will most likely see a good example of this when we meet the Governor. In the comics, at his apartment, he has rows and rows of aquariums filled with zombie heads and he watches that as a form of television.

Reanimination is different for every person. Some people reanimate within minutes of dying, some take hours.

you run out of healthy people and food and ammo eventually..the world would end for human beings in a matter of decades.

not necessarily. Have you read World War Z? Great book, movie being made now. In that story, they figured out a way to fight and defeat the zombie hoarde. It took 10-20 years, but they got it done.

I would think the first order of business would be to form a small group and find a safe place to survive. After that is accomplished, the next order of business would be to branch out and try and form a network of survivors and safe places. From there, organize and try and find an even bigger and better safe area to live...consolidate all the people and eventually wage war against the zombies and reclaim land and resources.

Food can always be grown. Ammo can be manufactured. There are also alternative weapons that can be discovered. And I don't really think the lack of ammo would become a problem in the forseeable future. There are always military ammo dumps that can be raided. Those would probably last long enough to the point where an alternative form a manufacturing ammo could be uitlized.

Great book, indeed. Although I think it would work better as an HBO mini-series than a movie, time will tell.

I bought more into the books telling of events concerning governments, production etc compared to, say, Romero's stories where there really is nothing left in scant several years besides a few huddled enclaves....although that's my view, I'm sure others will say he leaves it up to the viewer. But if you were to take into account Night of the Living Dead all the way up to Day of the Dead (I don't count Diary or the other abortion) it didn't take all that long for every fucking thing to fall apart. Even in Dawn of the Dead there was still government and an armed response....that led to Day of the Dead with no one left anywhere.

I digress.

The ongoing rumor spoiler is that Jenner told RIck that everyone (his group) is infected and will come back after they die.

There are a couple of holes in this:

1) You would think Rick would tell Shane this vital info.
2) Going off further spoilers how does Zombie (character name to be withheld), have a chance to come back to wreck havoc? If what jenner said was true, Rick would have done the deed correctly.
3) The security guards had scratches on their arms, hence why they are zombies.

never liked any zombie related stuff until this show..i will check out the book though..thanks for the heads up.....how long do you think it will take to run out of gasoline? no more will be produced..how long before each group loses a member one by one?...the population would slowly dwindle and with age you get slower and more vulnerable .. not to mention the actual humans left are fighting each other for survival... in my opinion it would be only a matter of time before every human was dead maybe 3-4 decades.

He doesn't want to start a panic in a group that is nearly splintering already.. All leaders withhold important imformation from the sheep.

This is why Obama hasn't told Americans that Iran has our country by the balls.

They could vanquish the Zombie population if they moved to bow and arrows. They could rough it and get by, but it will be like the stone ages. Low birth rate, life expectancy down.

If I was in the Walking Dead, I'm heading North. Mn, Wi, ND would be ideal. Less Zombies, lots of wood for burning, lots of game to hunt.

Canada.

The zombies are very polite up there.

using a knife is dumb and reckless..if you get scratched you are done a sword sure but not a knife...the smart move would be to head to less populated areas with lots of guns like wisconsin/southern minnesota..canadian winters are too long and brutal.

I always chuckle when they stab the zombies in the head. Do their skulls get really soft and rubbery?
No way you could stab someone in the head and pierce a skull that easily.

zombies are in a constant state of decomposition so stabbing them in the head wouldn't be the same as stabbing a normal person. Trust me, I've done both.

Regarding where to go, zombies freeze so going to cold weather would be a good idea. If you could get really lucky and find a place where it freezes but doesn't snow you could go around and just kill off all the frozen zombies quite easily. However if it snows you would be stuck dealing with buried zombies.

How would you have any idea which areas are less populated?

In other words, the key to outlasting zombies is gentrification.

i would just assume that metro atlanta would be swarming since the high density of people..where as green bay wisconsin would be the opposite.

SPOILER...............

'Walking Dead' Reveals Huge Spoiler in DVD Ad
Kimberly Potts 03/02/2012 7:30 AM

(Spoiler warning: Don't read this if you don't want a major plot point revealed about season two).

One of the "Walking Dead" survivors won't be around much longer, if an ad for a "Walking Dead" DVD box set is to be believed.

In a major gaffe, the second-season box-set ad described such bonus features as "the making of the barn, an extended zombie gut scene, Shane's last episode …"

That's right: "Shane's last episode." Which would confirm speculation that actor Jon Bernthal, who plays Shane, is leaving the series. Bernthal recently landed a new role on TNT's upcoming cop drama "L.A. Noir."

The DVD ad appeared on AMC's store website. An AMC spokewoman said in a statement: "The post on the AMC store was completely unauthorized. The matter is currently under investigation."

As of Friday morning, the network had not only removed "The Walking Dead" DVD pre-order post, but its entire AMC online store.

While it's a surprise that news of Shane's exit would come in such an anticlimactic way, it won't come as a shocker to diehard "Walking Dead" fans. Readers of Robert Kirkman's comic series know Shane dies early on in the comics. (He doesn't even make it to Hershel's farm). And on the show, particularly in last week's episode, the tension between Shane and Rick, the leader of the survivors, appears close to boiling over. It continues in Sunday's new installment, "Judge, Jury, Executioner."

Hmmm, not surprising. Just curious how it all happens. This second portion of season 2 has been
pretty damn good.

I just don't get it.

Why keep Shane around longer than what was written in the graphic novels if you're just going to kill him off in the next season anyway?

Has he done anything major to the plot other than opening the barn doors at the farm? Was he just kept around to allow Rick a way to establish himself as the leader of the group?

His character was basically the leader for most of the first season, but since then he has been spinning tires.
