it was brilliant until sorkin left; then it was just...fine. i was never a big john wells fan. always thought he was what i call a "TV Typewriter" writer...he knows he's writing for television and usually litters his dialog with cliches and his characters are very stagey. he's most known for helming "ER", and he was a better writer back then. he also wrote for "china beach".

This was one of the best shows on TV for a long time. Still holds up watching the episode even after 10+ years (early seasons). It's clear the writing took a nosedive when Sorkin left. Season 5 by itself was a trainwreck. Having CJ as COS was just stupid. The show rebounded nicely in season 7 for a nice conclusion.

Bartlet For America. An episode I put up against any show's best.
100,000 Airplanes and Somebody's going to emergency, somebody going to jail are two of my other favorites.

long story short, when i need any infusion of culture to help snag the 9s/dimes that i so richly deserve, i look no further than the sagelike advice of one laurence w. holmes, aka skee lo, because he's like your dad being an asshole when he was playing with you when you were a kid: he doesn't let you down!
