GOALS
1. Castro needs to be an ALL STAR SS...or close enough
2. Rizzo needs to come out of this year as the clear cut 1st baseman.
3. Brett Jackson comes up mid season and shows he is a MLB CF
4. Soriano Traded

Realstic Bonuses

1. Randy Wells is a solid 4th or 5th veteran starter
2. Travis Wood, 3rd starter
3. Garza stays with team, as solid #2

Longshot Bonuses

1. Ian Stewart experiment pans out
2. LaHair canhit 30 HRs and Move to LF
3. One of the MASH Unit pitchers becomes a really good setup man.

I think your long shots have the best chance of happening other than Castro being an all star.

Wells will never start for a Championship team.

Castro may not be part of Theo's plan

Wrong. So, so wrong.

Wells is a decent 5th starter AT BEST

Castro is a Hendry guy and possibly a rapist.

I hope im wrong on Wells but he's 28 years old and gotten worse in every category the last two years

I like Castro. I hope he's not a rapist and Im sure he can win but Theo's plan might be a little different.

Im in wait and see mode.

He had a solid last two months. You can blame injury for the first four.

Theo's plans should involve winning. At 22 years old when the season starts, I don't think you need to trade him in order to get "younger" or "cheaper."

Might not be as simple as that.

If Theo values defense he certainly wont be the SS. Mabye he needs other things from that position.

He was unafraid to trade an MLB ready Hanley Ramirez in Boston, so dont count that option out.

The Cubs come one out away from winning the world series, when the apocalypse ends the world and the curse of the Cubs lives on.

I am for sure.

He's had a couple of rough years with BABIP plus dealing with injuries. His 2010 he had a xFIP of 3.94. Which is just fine for a 4th or 5th starter.

5th starter on an average team. Spot starter long relief on a good team.

I would like to see:

Stewart turn into something decent. Maybe hit .280/.330 with 20 HR's and 80 RBI.
Castro to improve defensively and hit for more power.
Rizzo and Jackson to develop and play well at the major league level.
LaHair to continue to mash the ball and be traded for a top prospect.
Maholm to pitch well. 3.50 ERA with 13 wins.
Would like to see good things out of the newbies in the system from last years draft as well.

Anyway you cut it, the clear focus is on some holes filled or totally open for 2013...

Except for Frank's amazingly perceptive statements.

Also, Castro is a damn good baseball player, and he fits on any team that wants to win. Regarding Wells, he is a solid pitcher and any team would be lucky to have him as their five. You will see that this year. Or I'll eat my words.

randy wells would not last 3 starts in the american league before he was sent packing...at best he is a 5th starter in the n.l.

goals for castro...get his obp and steals up and errors down and a little more power...videotape every sexual encounter

Wells seems to be really good after he is beaten up in his first 3 starts, then goes on the DL, then takes some time off and runs off 7 good wins in July.

Wow,same stuff I was going to say except if LaHair is pounding the ball, why trade him at all? Prospect always equals a guess. Move LaHair to LF and put Rizzo at 1st.
I love "going young" too,but after awhile,it's just an excuse for sucking.

Supposedly, the Cubs system is pretty deep with OF talent. So, while keeping LaHair wouldn't be the worst thing, I just don't see the Cubs giving him a long term deal and block some prospects. He would have great value at the deadline, though, if he hits really well this year. Could land a good pitching prospect.

He's a 29 year old first baseman with 219 career AB's. I'm sure other teams will be falling over themselves to give up anything and everything for such a rare commodity like that.

If he has 15 HR's and 65 RBI at the break or something ridiculous like that, many teams will be falling all over themselves.

There is no doubt the guy says AAAA, but when a player earns a chance and you have an opening, he deserves the look.

Saying a guy deserves a look and saying he can be traded for top assets based on one good half of baseball are two very different things.

5 first baseman had at least 15 HR's and 65 RBI at the break last year and 11 had at least 15 HR's. Those are not ridiculous numbers for a major league first baseman.
