And RPB, there's a difference between a Souja Boy or Justin Beiber selling a million records, and someone selling 44 million records off of one album.

True, but Ill never give a lot of weight to record sales when critiquing music.

The Dirty Dancing Soundtrack sold 40 Million copies. Does that make Patrick Swayze the same level of singer as Whitney?

Her voice, in her prime, was an instrument of the highest degree, Arps.

While I agree that the media coverage has been overkill, it should not take away from how great she was. Top 10 voices of all time...maybe 5.

Nope

The Bodyguard soundtrack is a terrible example for the argument, Camps...that album was going to sell to the 35-45 female demo because it had Kevin Costner at the height of his popularity coupled with a torch singer with all of the weepy crap that the pre-menopausal boomers love.

It's a perfect shit-storm.

What songs did Kevin Costner perform on that album?

sort of a weird tie in....I watched Modern Family last night and one of the gay dudes was throwing a surprise B-day party for the other gay dude....A Wizard of Oz theme party...and there was a knock on the door as the role players (dorothy, tin man, etc...) were arriving throughout....and the one gay dude opens the door and there are two guys there standing half dressed in the "monkey" outfits...and the one guy says "Hey"...the other guy then says "hey"...then in unison they say "we're the monkeys". "hey" "hey" "we're the monkeys".

I found it ironic...and as I type this...not all that funny I guess. :?

Swayze did actually sing a hit song on that album. I think he might have wrote it, too. Double whammy.

What songs did Kevin Costner perform on that album?

Missing my actual point. Let's lay this out list style:

1. Pre-menopausal women loved Kevin Costner at the time
2. They go see said movie
3. They love shitty "torch song"
4. They buy shitty soundtrack because they saw the move because Kevin Costner was in it.

The Bodyguard soundtrack's success is all Kevin Costner's fault.

When Jackie Treehorn's thug delivers that line to Swayze during their big fight scene, I always have to rewind and watch it again.

I'm not going to type it out because someone will just use it as a sig or something.
