Only caught like 25 minutes of the Spurs game but Parker and Duncan looked good. Ginobli too in limited minutes, but he looked a little slow defensively.

Spurs are at Oklahoma City just crushing the Thunder right now, 63-39.

Just sayin'

That's cool, it will give them some fond memories of this season to reflect on while they watch the majority of the playoffs from their couches.

Yep. Good call. I took Memphis this weekend. They lost last night. Need a victory tomorrow vs. Wash or I'm out of the running for the $20k prize.

Does anyone know why Love and Barea were getting into it on the bench last night?

Sportsbook has been lazy with updating the pool. Started with 698 people as of Friday night. I'm guessing we lost around 30 over the weekend. Time to start researching for week 10...

This was a really good team that never won anything.

Mullin, Hardaway, Richmond, Chris Gatling, a young Mario Elie, Vincent Askew, Billy Owens, Ty Hill, Sarunus Marcilionis...REALLY good team.

If they had a real coach instead of Nellie, who knows how far they could've gone. Damn, I miss 90s NBA basketball.

I heard that stuff with the owner coming into work on the radio, that was very uncomfortable and then Rick Barry and Mullin were pissed. The crowd didn't give a shit, they kept booing the hell out of him.

I love you Bagels, but it's true. Don Nelson was the Mike D'Antoni of his day. It didn't help that the West was stacked with great teams (Portland, Houston, Utah, San Antonio, Seattle, Phoenix), but you could argue that a better coach could've at least consistently taken all that Golden State talent deep into the playoffs instead of being a first-round exit every year.

I thought the year they got Webber in the draft day trade for Penny Hardaway was gonna be the year G-State finally became a player in the West. Nope. First-round sweep by Phoenix in 3 games. I think Barkley dropped like 44 in one of those games.

It isn't really fair to compare Nelson to Mike D'Antoni. Nelson had a lot of success for a real long period of time. D'Antoni is just kind of a blip on the screen.

And could it not also be argued that Nelson's coaching strategy got more out of Run TMC than any other coach would have? He utilized what each of them did the best to make the team better. Without a real inside presence they were never going to be able to really contend in the West, so Nelson did what he had to do to be competitive.

In such a defensively-oriented league, Nellie's run 'n gun style just didn't fit. But you're correct in that they needed a real inside presence. Ty Hill was undersized and Gatling and Owens were soft.

But they did have Tom Tolbert for awhile. :D

First of all, that was the year Hardaway missed the entire year with the torn ACL. And Webber decided be a bitch and force a trade where they basically got screwed. I liked Gugliotta but he was no Webber, and it really went downhill from there as the parade of awfulness- Rony Siekaly, Victor Alexnader, etc. got paraded in.

So Webber and Hardaway never played together...I think with those 2, Spreewell in his prime, a still good Mullin...they might have gone further. Yes, Barkley did destroy Webber in that series but Webber was only a rookie, and they were also sending Keith Jennings & Avery Johnson against KJ in his prime.

And Nellie...c'mon man...that is a complete diss to compare him to D'Antoni just because they both have offensive based styles. Nelson was in innovator. plus he can drink D'Antoni under the table

You do make some good points regarding that '94 series against Phoenix...I had forgotten that Hardaway missed that year.

Gugliotta was really unspectacular. When the Webber trade went down the following year, I immediately became a Bullets fan.

But regarding Nellie, I don't discount that his offensive systems were innovative, but I think offensively some of those Warriors teams could've scored in their sleep regardless of who was coaching. But if they had a coach preaching defense we might've seen something special with them. Imagine if Pat Riley had gone to the Warriors in '91 instead of the Knicks.

I agree with Kid's premise that Nellie's style was never gonna win a title, especially not in the 90's. I don't know if he maximized Run TMC's potential or not, but I know that building a team around them wasn't going to end up being a team that could compete with Hakeem's rockets ultimately. At the time it was much more of an inside-out game. So I think the clash of styles led him to a big part of his success, it definitely led to matchup problems for opponents, but ultimately it was never going to win a title. And any Nelson talk should have an asterisk noting that after his upset of the Mavs in '07 he was quite possibly the worst coach in the nba. Mailing it in doesn't begin to describe his performance to get that win mark.

I think his brief Knicks stint in '95-'96 was even more embarrassing.

At least he wasn't being lauded nationally by espn for breaking such an important win benchmark*

I'm also positive the Spurs would've won the '06 title if Nelson was still coaching the Mavs. And Avery Johnson sucks at coaching. So that's not good.

*win benchmark is not important. Phil's win benchmark is important.

why don't you feel that style couldn't have won them a title?
in the Run TMC era (~89-92) the West representatives in the Finals were the Lakers and Blazers . and the Suns in 93
Lakers had a washed up Kareem at C and did not use a classic inside-outside game
Blazers had an obese Kevin Duckworth and also did not use a classic inside-outside game
in fact the Rockets lost to the Lakers 2 years in a row in the first round and didn't even make the playoffs the next year
extending to the Suns, while they did have Barkley not really a classic dominant inside game either
point being the Warriors style COULD have won and I disagree that it was a inside-outside game at the time, at least in the West
the Rockets became more of a force later in the 90's with Barkley and Drexler as did the Spurs when Duncan came. by that the time the Warriors had faded into NBA hell

I've come to learn that, but I can admit that I was one of the idiots in '08 who wanted the Bulls to talk to him.

The Rockets became more of a force when Barkley came? I must be misremembering the mid-90's.
