I am glad I came into Chicago for one last visit.Might go again tomorrow morning.
http://www.wgntv.com/blogs/leshock-value/wgntv-bridgeports-ramova-grill-to-close-after-82-years-20120314,0,6447046.storyIt's on top of so many "Best Chili in Chicago" lists, but after 82 years of business, Bridgeport's Ramova Grill will be closing its doors on April 14th.
I first visited the restaurant while hosting "metromix on CLTV," where it made our "Best Chili" list. I was instantly charmed by the friendly staff. Walking into the spot is like walking back in time, not much has changed over the decades.
You'll see many of the same faces if you come back, both behind the counter and in the dining room. Co-owner Tony Dinos has been working in the restaurant since 1960. He told us that a new building owner wants the space cleared, and seeing that he's been working there for 52 years, it was time to hang up the apron.
Customers were emotional, remembering the first time their fathers walked them into the diner for a burger and fries after catching a show at the now-shuttered Ramova Theatre. All said they'll be visiting as many times as they can before they close next month.
I highly recommend trying the chili and checking the place out before they shut down on April 14th. As one customer told me today, there aren't many old-school diners like it left.
My WGN News feature is scheduled to air this evening at 5 p.m. I'll post it here after it airs. Here's more information about Ramova....
