Lee and Lifeson or Sting and Summers are the obvious firsts to come to mind because the bass player was actually a front man too.

But Townshend and Entwhistle to me were my Fav. And Eddie is so good, me at bass would be a good pair. And I dont play bass.

As a long time Jazz Fusion & Prog guy, I'll take this angle:

Howe/Squire
Holdsworth/Berlin
Di meola/Clarke
Hackett/Rutherford
Fripp/Wetton

The fact that someone named "Dimebag Darrell" was shot on stage doesn't surprise me one bit.

Especially because his original name was Caffeine Pete.

you do realize that Hammett only played his guitar solos on every recording up until the Black album...
so, unless you are a huge fan of that bass guitar behind the solos on Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets....I think you might mean Hetfield and Burton.

If I'm putting together a band, I'm gonna go with Lennon/McCartney.

That's what Paul Konerko likes.

The story behind the name is that Pantera, just like many other bands were glam/hair metal early on. He went by Diamond Darrell. After they abandoned the glam approach and became a southern metal band, "Diamond" didn't really fit. A friend suggested Dimebag because it wasn't radically different than Diamond, and that was that. He wasn't the one in Pantera with a drug problem- Phil was. IIRC, Dimebag seldom took anything other than weed and booze.

By all accounts he was one of the nicest musicians you would ever meet. Nary a single negative story from those who have met him. Michelle Branch even went out of her way to say some nice words about him.

He didn't bring this on to himself. If he did, it was only because of how accessible he was to fans. The shooter had issues, stopped taking his meds for the issues, blamed Pantera's breakup on Dimebag, and convinced himself that Dimebag stole his songs to use for Pantera. I don't even think the guy played guitar or was involved with music. Perhaps in his heads.

Harrison was the better guitar player in that band.

That was my first choice. When Billy Sheehen and Stevie Vai were playing with DLR. They were pretty tight.

Yeah, his brother probably just took it in stride because he's in the industry.
