First I heard him say the Sox rotation has a lot of question marks. I suppose that's true in as much as we don't know what any pitcher in history is going to do before he does it, but the White Sox obviously have what appears to be the most solid top to bottom rotation in the AL Central. If you're going to criticize the White Sox, there are far better places to attack than the five competent starting pitchers.

I dont think this is an issue of the guy not knowing what he's talking about.

I think this is a symptom of sports talk radio. They just spout cliches and extremely general statements that cant be disputed because of course theyre true.

Yes, Humber and Floyd are question marks. Like 75% of starting pitchers in the league.

Even the whole B and B "this Bulls regular season game doesnt mean anything for the playoffs" smacks of that.

Its an equally indisputable and uninteresting statement. If they beat the Heat, it wasnt because of that. If they dont, "We told you it didnt mean anything"

Its pretty annoying. The fill in guys do this more than most.

I agree. They're not really saying anything at all.

They've thrown a boatload of cash and promises at two high-profile coaches from mid-major success stories and been rejected both times. All they need to do is get rejected by the guy at Gonzaga now to complete the hat trick.

The problem with the young coaches these days is they have no respect - they should be willing to work at a top-10 national program for free!

Illini nation has turned on LoHo. Will Dr. Kenneth Noisewater unswear his allegiance to the Illini or Holmes?

Going to South Carolina.

It's unfortunate that Mike Thomas seems to share spanky's view of the program.

Wow, South Carolina over Illinois?

MT can save face by hiring the Simeon coach.

I don't think Illinois went after him. I'd be easy to find out, though. Just ask anybody in the world.

I was thinking about that this morning. He'd be better than anybody that Thomas is apparently content to get.

The problem isn't my view of the program (which is clearly closer to everyone's view of it) - it's Thomas' and Illinois' view of the program.

No. There are a group of solid, quality candidates that would take this job. Thomas instead chose to go after guys that consistently turn down other opportunities. He presumed throwing money at them would change their mind despite previous evidence to the contrary.

Now, he's going to freak out and try to get something done that is safe and quick. Ohio.

I again go back to two major hang ups that are preventing Illinois from being a top landing spot:

-administration
-facilities

Good point. I notice you didn't say Horizon League though.

If you want to argue that South Carolina is a better coaching position than Illinois, then I won't continue as it would serve no purpose.

No I ain't arguing that. I just think you are looking at all of this with such strong orange and blue glasses that you cannot see anything objectively.

So you said "guys", you have named Martin, so who else is on this list?

Apparently Leonard Hamilton but he got shot down right from the start. Not very exciting but a solid candidate.

I would imagine there are a few more that I don't know about.

Is it me or is it kind of stupid to fire a guy with a year left when you have no idea who will replace him.
I mean, wouldn't you already have a damn good idea of what the alternative to a guy before you fire him?

They did have a good idea. He decided he liked the winters in Richmond, VA better than central Illinois.
