He wants to get paid like a top player. I've never heard "post player" stipulated in negotiations. And he is one of the ten best players in the league. Once he rounds his game out he will be a perennial MVP candidate.

But doesn't "rounding out his game" for a big man just mean moving further away from the basket? I heard some of the Score guys talking about Boozer and how he doesn't seem to play on the blocks the way he did early in his career. They acted like this was confusing. But anyone who has followed hoops for more than a few seasons knows it's common for big men to move further and further from the basket as their careers progress. It's hard to bang down low. Guys begin to believe they have earned the right not to and they polish that mid-range jumper. If we're going to talk about what made Rodman great, it's the fact that he always understood his role.

What you're talking about is becoming a more versatile scorer. Love is already one of the best in the league at scoring. I'm mainly talking about defense and passing/making teammates better.

I'm not talking about Love specifically. I'm just saying it's a rare top big man who actually plays a "big man game" throughout his whole career. Banging on the blocks kind of sucks. Guys do it because they've been big their entire lives and that's what big guys do. But those who can score and make a reputation generally move further out sooner rather than later.

Love is shooting 38% from 3 which is good and is 13th in makes, meaning he's taking a lot (lot of the top % leaders have not taken that many)
he does play inside too, its ridiculous to say he doesn't. do you think he gets all those rebounds camping out at the arc ?

He tips them to himself all the way out to the 3 point line. Those kind of rebounds count for 3 or 4.

Of course he does, but like most guys he'll undoubtedly move further away as his career progresses. I don't find that odd. And I don't find it odd with Boozer or Stoudamire. It's just what guys do.

but you're making it out to appear as if the reason he's doing that is because he's afraid of contact or is lazy and would just rather shoot jumpers
first of all, he's 2nd in the league in offensive rebounding. if you're camped out at the arc all day, you don't get offensive rebounds.
second, look at the Wolves and tell me what outside threats they have. Ridnour ? Martell Webster ? Wayne Ellington? Beasley? point being if Love played inside all the time he would get double and triple teamed because there is no one that is going to knock down an outside shot for them right now. When Rubio was playing he obviously wasn't doing that consistently either. point being that he pretty much is their best outside option and he needs to knock those down to relieve some of the pressure he sees from defenses

I'm not suggesting that at all. I'm not saying it's even occurred with Love at this stage of his career. And I don't think any of these guys is "afraid" to bang it out. They all did it at some point. It's just that when they reach a certain point in their careers I think they feel entitled not to have to do that anymore.

I'd compare it to a rookie salesman running leads with Patels. Once you're established you don't have to run Patels anymore. It really doesn't matter that you were the best guy ever at closing Patels. When you're the big dog you ain't running that pain in the balls lead. So you move outside and shoot threes like Steve Kerr.

obviously if he was a terrible shooter than he wouldn't be doing it
but he's above average and strange as it may be is the teams best outside threat

Yeah, that may be true and like RPB pointed out, Love isn't a typical big man. He's a hybrid type player who can do big man stuff, play with his back to the basket but also step out and shoot very effectively. I guess what I'm saying is that you'd be hard-pressed to find a big guy who, given the ability to do both things, wouldn't prefer to score from fifteen feet rather than getting the shit beat out of him every night in the low post.

But Stoudemire and Boozer are not nearly as skilled from outside as Love already is.

So Love's transition will be smoother


Or he may go like Dirk. Go outside TOO Much than have to learn to go back in to win a title.
