I know Wood has options and will be in Iowa. If Sappelt has options he may be as well.

exactly what i said when they traded marshall..they did not get enough..wood is a bum who at best is a 5th starter and torreyes will never amount to shit at the big league level.

From all accounts I'm reading, seems like Shark got himself a spot in the rotation.

Becoming very crowded with Garza, Dempster, Shark, Maholm.

Leaves Wells, Volstad and Travis Wood to compete for the 5th spot and long relief guy. At least I can't remember Volstad or Wood being optioned.

Wells is having a really nice spring, but not liking the odds for my guy. Travis Wood has been terrible and seems destined for Iowa.

Wood is going to be optioned. It is only a matter of when. Volstad I hear is in and Maholm threw well yesterday. I think they will back off of their stance on making Shark a part of the rotation and put him back in the pen where he could be very good. The problem with him starting I hear is that he can't change speeds on his other pitches. Everything is gas which makes it far less effective, especially for a starter.

Shark's been working on these secondary pitches since day one with the team. I agree I think he could be very good out of the pen for this team for a long time.

I think it comes down to expectations for this year and the future. If they are honestly trying to win this year, I think you go Garza/Demp/Volstad/Wells/Maholm for the starters.

If this really is a see what you have kind of year, they have to give Shark a chance to start to see if he can even do it. Give him a 10-12 start sample. The team needs to know what his ceiling is going to be once and for all.

If i were part of the brain trust, he'd be in the starting rotation to start the year.

The Trevor Miller experiment is over as he is old and sucks. In other news John Grabow is now available because the Dodgers realized he sucks balls as well.

The Shark dealt today going 6 strong. He had a rough go of it last time and couldn't change speeds but this performance seems to have cemented him in the rotation. Who is out of this rotation then? I still think its Wells. Maybe they will steal the shitfaced pitching coach from across town's 6 man rotation idea.

They should give Shark a shot at the rotation. I don't see why not. As for Wells, there is a lot of trade interest so if they can trade him now while his value is high, I say adios.

sounds like wells is going to be in the pen  ..as predicted..and he has very little trade value...he is a just a guy...5th starter at best on a bad rotation.

Not a huge shock. They want Castillo as their catcher of the future and probably figure he needs the AB's.

I am a little surprised at the Shark man. Yesterday was something like 6 shutout innings.
I guess if Wells is the odd man out I feel good about the first replacement that needs to be made.

Dewitt has somehow made the cut. How in the hell did this happen?

Swung the bat well. I prefer Cardenas so hopefully they can trade his ass prior to the season starting or soon thereafter.

This all means nothing until Whistler weighs in on the current state of the Cubs.

i would take cpguy and walkerman over scorpio and rfdc thoughts any day of the week..messedup is hit or miss but not a homer like you two...homers are predictable and boring..at least these guys have the fire n the passion ...and can look at something objectively..

So Travis Wood and Dave Sappelt can't make this team out of spring training? I'm sure both will get a shot at some point but you would think they could have acquired better talent than this for one of the best left handed relievers in the NL.

If you don't say everything is going to suck, you're a homer. When something does happen to suck, after saying everything will suck, you get to say "I told you so." Got it. Bad.

So who is in the pen this year?

I know Marmol and The Rodrigo Lopez are in as is Wood. That Russell cat will be there. Is Dolis in? Lendy Castillo, Frankie De La Cruz and Gerardo Conception are in??

According to my extremely unscientific and biased spring observations, let's guess that these dudes are in:
Carlos Marmol
Kerry Wood
James Russell
Rafael Dolis
Lendy Castillo
Rodrigo Lopez

Coleman would be in as a long man, or possibly even Corpas... I guess the "conventional" thing now is a 12 man staff... but this would preclude either Willie Mayes Campana or Joe Mather being sent down. No idea on whether more comfortable Sveum would be juggling an 11-man staff, or a short bench...
