my ex wife works in a building pretty much across the street from the courthouse on Jefferson...and there are definitely some shady characters wandering around there.....she told me one time at night, like 8 or 9pm they (foolishly) had their back door unlocked (not the main entrance to the building) and one of the workers found a homeless person had just come in and decided to go to sleep on one of the couches

Why does night matter? Bad things can't happen when the sun is up?

There is more crime in poor neighborhoods. Thats a fact. I dont hate poor people. Some do.

Having been to the "west side" of Joliet after dark, and perhaps to your astonishment, I don't find it particularly safe. In fact, I've never felt particularly safe in many of the far sw suburbs. Frankly the whole Joliet/Shorewood/Minooka area reminds me quite a bit of rural Tennessee. And not in a good way.

I live in Forest Park now, so you would be ok...although I live across the street from a bowling alley and a few bars so you might hear a few drunks being loud at 2AM, and I also live by train tracks so you may hear a 100 car frieght train go by, but there is never any crime.

In fact, our local paper reports things like when someone is pulled over with weed in the car.

I think I understand what Chris is saying but I think he is doing a poor job of saying it. If you go into urban and low income areas during the day you may see a lot of people that fit Chris's description. However that doesn't mean the entire community is like that or even the majority. Most people are working and trying to stay off the streets because of the senseless violence in many of those areas. To paint an entire community that was comes off a little Elmhurst Steve/Chas/Scorehead/Panther/Jimmy Sandusky like.
