I am still vehemently opposed to the Cubs taking public money for this. Last night, I watched a video of the Glendale City Council having a budget meeting, running down all the cuts to services that actual people need because they were bamboozled into bailing out the Phoenix Coyotes. I am so done with this whole "public-private partnership" line of bullshit where the public loses money so the private can gain money. I say this as a Cubs fan, mind you.

The Cubs make plenty of money and the Cubs leadership is all grown up....float some bonds, do whatever but don't slum for public money. Especially with the absolutely disastrous fiscal situation of not only the state but the city of Chicago itself.

What ever the "scheme" is it will be a total rape of the public coffers.

Maybe Emanuel thinks he'll be a one-term mayor and the Ricketts can provide a cushy post-mayoral role for Emanuel on the North side.

Reducing head-count and public services while giving a windfall of taxpayer dollars to a billionaire family doesn't seem like a smart recipe for re-election in the current political climate.

Assume any deal would have to be approved by City Council, aldermen with designs on challenging Emanuel next time around won't allow that to be a quiet process.

Yeah, I can't see how this silliness would be rubberstamped through just because Rahm might give a carefully worded press conference. The ultimate result is a taxpayer bailout of a profitable sports team, no matter how you spin, obfuscate, and lie. There's always a cost to the public, and it always hurts. Those Comiskey Park hotel taxes haven't exactly been a boon to the convention industry.
