He looks like Bill from Bill and Ted's Excellent adventure.

Agreed. Their catalog holds up nicely. He was a hell of a singer.

Maybe they should have toured with Elton John.

Layne Staley and Heath Ledger just told me Dustin Johnson dropped out of the Masters and is upside-down on a car lease.

But did he sell his used guitar?

I tried to get into some of Cantrell's solo work a few years ago, it just wasn't the same...

This was one of the first and only celebrity deaths that really bummed me out (that I can think of). Waylon Jennings' death roughly two months later is the other. I threw Facelift and Mad Season's Above into my cd changer rotation today without even thinking about this sad anniversary. The first track on Above is so hard to move past because it's so good. I just keep it on repeat.

I always felt Dirt was the best of all those big "grunge" albums that came out around the same time with Nevermind, Ten, and Badmotorfinger. You can certainly find other superlatives to give to those other albums though

Because Layne is better. Trust me, it's better when your rock idols die young. I'm sure the last thing any of us would want is a Staley and Pitbull duet at 2019's Super Bowl Halftime Show.

That party would be less than thirty percent, no friends, no friends friends, and no hot women that somehow weren't originally invited to pitbulls party, no did he have any friends that were hot women, nor any friends friends were hot women.

Meh.
Never cared for AiC. Staley was the primary reason.
I always thought he kinda had "punch me in the face" face, and "punch me in my larynx" voice.
Plus I didn't like their songs.
:D

MIKE MCCREADY HINTS AT NEW MAD SEASON ALBUM
BY FERNANDO SCOCZYNSKI FILHO

Mad Season, the Seattle supergroup that attained something of a legendary status after its demise, might see a sort of comeback later this year. Originally formed by Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready, Alice In Chain’s Layne Staley, Screaming Tree’s Barrett Martin (as well as special guest Mark Lanegan), and John Baker Saunders, the group officially dissolved after Saunders passed away in 1999. But, as the Pearl Jam guitarist recently stated, the band still had some unreleased material.

According to GrungeReport, Mike McCready was interviewed by WFPK radio, while promoting a tour of his charity-driven UFO tribute band Flight To Mars. When asked about his side projects, McCready stated that he wants to re-release Mad Season’s 1995 debut Above, as well as a live album. Things got really interesting, however, when he casually mentioned that, back in the day, they also had a lot of new songs in progress, which he intends to go back to and properly record: “The thing that happened was, we were trying to do another record, but it just didn’t work, Layne went off and did Alice In Chains and then he died. So, what happened was, I had to change the band name to Disinformation. From the Disinformation sessions there are probably twelve songs, and out of that, probably eight that are pretty great. They need to be edited, but they’re all music, so we’re trying to find singers that are up to the caliber of Layne to do justice to it.”

Wake Up might be my favorite Layne Staley song of all time- Alice In Chains included.

If only he'd stayed alive so AIC could play a superbowl halftime show and make their once proud fans cringe with shame as their drug-wracked bodies croaked out a condensed safe-for-all-audiences medley.
