There was no double play...

That's what the gamecast told me. At work so I didn't see the play live.

Because just like Fire Marshal Bill, Carlos Marmol tends to throw gas...and I mean the kind of gas that starts fires.

This one is on Dale. You don't bring in Wood, with a 1 run lead, when he only pitched 5 innings in the spring. You know his command is bad usually, and now with openning day and lack of work, it was a easy call. Never been a fan of the contact play either. If it's hit to the corner infielders, you have to stay.

Taking Dempster out is fine but leaving Wood in to walk 3 guys is not. Marmol would have blown that lead anyways.

1 game closer to a good draft pick!!

At least Dempster looked good. At best a trade candidate if he waives the no trade. At worst, type A free agent compensatory draft pick. This assumes of course he stays decent to good...

He looked good with the wind blowing in. Zimmerman would have had a 3 run bomb in the first if there wasn't a wall of wind out there.

Very true. Hendry really bent over on that contract but at least he's off the books after the season as will Z's contract plus Byrd. That's what, 35M??

Those bad contracts are the reason why Jim Hendry is no longer generally managing the Cubs, and will soon cost Ken Williams his job with the White Sox.

Why would Dempster and Z's contract cost Kenny his job?

OH NO! The Cubs are 0-1! Oh my God this team was supposed to CONTEND! Everyone should be fired! Dale Sveum in particular! How dare he pull a pitcher in the 8th inning after he threw 110 pitches in the first game of the season! he should have left Dempster in there to complete the game and throw 135 pitches so we can win the all important 1st game of the season, after all it was a MUST-WIN game! How dare he go to the bullpen in the first game of the season and allow them a chance to do what they are being paid to do! This is insanity! Everyone would have understood completely had Dempster stayed in and thrown 120 pitches with the last one being a 3-run jack. Everyone would have said "Good for Dale, sticking with his horse Dempster and riding his old tired arm as far as he can go on April 5th! I know I would have!

AAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!

PANIC! PANIC!! PANIC!!!

Because he should have signed them to even MORE money than Hendry did with the Cubs obviously

Kenny's got bad contracts of his own, RFDC, remember? You may have heard of them. Jake Peavy, Alex Rios & Adam Dunn...

Well Dunn lost weight, Peavy is 100% of whatever he's got left now that he's not 100% of where he was in the past but 100% of what he feels like today, and Rios... well, there's Rios.
