I haven't read the books so I checked out the interactive thing on hbogo.com. It's helped a lot with maps, bios, short vids with GRRM, etc. Kind of like pop up video but much better and not as distracting. Probably not a lot of help for readers of the books, but I guess I don't know.

The funny thing is I read Game of Thrones over a decade ago. Clash of Kings soon thereafter. I'm struggling to remember what is true to the story timeline and what is not. Maybe it's better that way. I meant to go back and read all the books... apparently having 4 small kids impacts my reading time immensely.

I'm in the middle of the third book right now, and have been mostly bored with Book 2 and so far in Book 3. In the chapter I just read, shit just got real with the Frey's and Stark's.

A very famous chapter.

That came out of nowhere. I was definitely shocked.

First time in my life I ever got pissed off at a book. Like literally pissed to the point of re-reading and throwing the fucking book against the wall. Unbelievable that he went from writing that to Meereen.

I'm about a third into the first book which I'm enjoying.

Are the other books any good? Dbag's post has me worried.

I loved the first book.

I thought the 2nd book was boring (except for chapters involving Tyrion).
The third book has been much of the same (except chapters involving Tyrion & Danerys).

The chapters with Jon Snow, Arya, Catelyn, Sam Tarly, Davos, and any other side characters just seem very dull to me.

The first book is still the best of the 5, but I really enjoyed the other 4 as well. Much of the series is about politicking and character relationships...so...if you enjoy that, you'll enjoy the whole series.

In other words Shakes, the books are about a story, and I know you don't like stories.

I love stories, when they are in stories. Not when they take center stage in a so called video game.

I have never heard someone describe Storm of Swords as boring - even the parts before the chapter you referenced. When Storm ended I was so blown away that I didn't know if I loved or hated the book and had to wait 5 years for A Feast for Crows to come out... and another 5 for Dance With Dragons :x I have read the series several times now and Storm of Swords is by far my favorite. So much happens and so much foreshadowing that when you reread it you wonder how you missed the clues. They really are incredibly written books on several levels. But if you are getting bored with Clash and Swords then you are going to loathe Feast for Crows. It is a completely different book than the rest and the chapters that follow a certain female knight will put you in tears. I don't want to say much more for fear of spoilers but I hope by the end of Storm you change your mind on it :)

absolutely agree with this 100%. "storm of swords" is not only the best book in the series, it's one of the finest written books i've read in my life. from page one the thing crackles and pops. it makes you mad, it makes you happy, it gives you fits and starts, and it does it all in a rhythm the way that none of the other books did. "game of thrones" got very good toward the middle and was breathtaking by the end. "clash of kings" started slow but got better by the end.

now i liked "feast for crows" because it was a completely different angle for martin to take. i think 3 and 4 are actually my favorites of the series.

"dance" didn't do it for me. that was a lot of meandering, a lot of "making this up as i'm going along" even if it does check out against the rest of the series. it just seemed like he didn't know where to go with the story. i'm expecting something more like "storm" in "winds of winter" though. he's set a lot of stuff up at the end of "dance" that it should explode the way that "storm" did.

Can you please be specific? Or can we at least get a "Cool Kids GoT Thread for Those That Are Literate"?

I've read the 1st two books and I like the second season thus far. Remember, it isn't nor can it be a strict interpretation of the books. And the books included plenty of exposition and "in your head" talk....you can't really do that in a 60 min show so some scenes or story lines will have to be changed to work on screen.

I was pretty sure that Rahakro lived, I thought he was one of her bloodriders. I may be wrong though.

The scene with Stannis and Melisandre. THat was hinted at so I dont have problem with showing it but his wife surely isnt sick and he may not have sons but he has a daughter.

The final scene with Jon and Craster never happened. That is just stupid, just have Gilly tell them he sacrifices the sons.

Also, I feel like an idiot because I pronouced her name like Jilly and they said it with a hard G.

The Theon scenes were spot on. Not as in depth, but they captured the frustration and shame of Theon nicely.

As far as the Craster scene, I will wait and see.

This is from Storm when Mormont dies.

Gilly was crying. "Me and the babe. Please. I'll be your wife, like I was Craster's. Please, ser crow. He's a boy, just like Nella said he'd be. If you don't take him, they will."
"They?" said Sam, and the raven cocked its black head and echoed, "They. They. They."
"The boy's brothers," said the old woman to the left. "Craster's sons. The white cold's rising out there, crow. I can feel it in my bones. These poor old bones don't lie. They'll be here soon, the sons."

Maybe they're showing this instead of simply alluding to it.

And Rakharo was alive last book. That was dumb to kill him.

i really like the actor who plays theon. he did a good job; i still think theon's a bigger prick in the book.

show as much melisandre as you want, HBO. i do not mind.

Is everyone forgetting the first season, the first 1-3 ep. weren't all that exciting either? Long and detailed books here, first few episodes are introducing characters and story etc. The 2nd ep. was a good one in by opinion and was fairly exciting in some ways.

The shit is picking up and will hit the fan soon and bc of the setup it will mean more and carry more weight.
