Rizzo stays hot and ties the game at 1-1 with an rbi single though its still early and he has a few more ab's left tonight. Aside from a solo hr Rusin has pitched well.

Everyone lost it appears.

More importantly Jackson had 2 hits, Rizzo had 1 and Vitters was off in Iowa's loss. Rusin was solid until the wheels came off at the end. Still not bad.

Jae-Hoon had 2 hits for TN. Some no-name reliever who is happy I have not named him came in and gave up 8 earned runs in 2/3 of an inning of work.

Nothing out of Riz and Jackson today in the loss but thats fine after all the work they had been doing previously. Vitters had a few hits and still has his early average over .4OO. Well sucked, not as much as Maholm did but 4 earned in 6 or whatever it was innings is too much for AAA.

Baez started his Cub career in his first EST game going HR, triple, triple in his first three AB's.

If he keeps that up for a few weeks they might have to ship him up to Peoria instead of waiting for Boise.

That list isn't even really getting into the high ceiling arms they are in XST, and Single A ball. When people criticize the farm, they usually mean MLB ready talent which they have 1 to 1.5 depending on your Rizzo thoughts.

Baez's ceiling is Robinson Cano :drunken: :drunken:

Iowa won today behind a strong effort from Casey Coleman. Nothing at all from BJax or Rizz. Vitters was solid again with 2 hits and 2 rbi. Wellington went deep alongside 2 other hits and Coleman had 2 hits as he is a very good hitter.

TN lost but more importantly McNuttsonyourchin went 4 innings this time allowing O runs and striking out 5. Ha had a hit.

Daytona got their ass kicked and Szczur is batting .182.

Rizzo just hit his 4th home run for Iowa. :D
Jackson has cooled off and is O for 3 and Vitters is O for 2 with his hitting streak on the line. Still lots of game left. Jay Jackson is shoving right now as well.....edit...was shoving.

Rizzo just hit #5, Jackson just hit one as well. These 2 are beating down the door.

And yet won't see the bigs until next year.

No. But this thread will be filled with arguments until they are called up in early June.

The arguments can stay in the other Cubs threads....this is just for updating what the prospects are up to.

Your guy Wells had quite the day today for Iowa. 8 earned runs in 2 and 1/3 innings pitched.

Why isn't Ha on the top 20 list? Is he that far off?

He can't hit. Great defensively, but cannot hit for shit.

He has hit well in the minors so far...about .270 and above. He isn't a power guy, and was never projected to be...but he can still hit 35+ doubles and a few triples. I mean, I know there are other outfielders in this organization ahead of him...just seems like he should be on that list.

Here we go again. Crazy Cubs fans thinking some low level prospect is going to be Ken Griffey Jr.

No I agree. There's a lot of intriguing prospects in XST and Single A ball right now.

When you hit for a low average AND have a low OBP, then you are not a good hitter. Especially when you have no power. People will forgive Soriano because he hits 30 HR and has 85 RBI. Ha will never have those numbers, so he has to have at least a high OBP or incredible speed or something special to make him useful on a major league roster.

He's a tough kid, who is a very good defensive OF. But that doesn't make you a top prospect.

Since when is .270+ a bad average?

Also, while his OBP isn't amazing, it isn't terrible. He doesn't walk a great amount, but he also doesn't strike out a great amount. He would be a guy that can move runners around the bases.

Also, I never called him a top prospect. But not Top 20?

A few things about the Cubs top prospect list:

1. Pitching is always given a premium on these lists. An okay pitcher is looked at more highly than an athletic OF.
2. Up until the last draft, the Cubs had a really thin system, so Ha was more highly ranked because of his athleticism.
3. These lists promote high upside. Ha does not have that upside compared to newly drafted guys.

Given the above, Ha is no longer seen as a Top 20 player in the Cubs system. If he was, you should be upset the Cubs system is so shitty as to have a 5th OF as a one of the top 20 people in it.

Javier Baez belted a three-run home run and Yasiel Balaguert stroked an RBI triple and scored on a Jair Bogaerts RBI single, as the Cubs plated five runs in the bottom of the 4th en route to a 5-1 victory over the Angels in Extended Spring Training action this morning at Fitch Park Field #3 in Mesa, AZ.

The Baez HR was not without controversy.

Baez stood at home plate for a couple of seconds after absolutely walloping the gopher ball 400+ feet and off the roof of a house on the north side of 8th Street (Baez did the exact same thing on Tuesday when he launched a three-run homer over the LF fence at Indian School Park in Scottsdale), at which point one of the Angel coaches yelled, “Run the bases!”

Baez initially took the “advice” and he did run the bases (albeit a bit of a “Cadillac” trot that probably further irritated the opposition), but upon reaching home plate Baez stopped and yelled back at the Angel bench, “I can do whatever the fuck I want!”

Javier Baez hit for the cycle and drove-in all five Cub runs with a two-run triple and a three-run home run, but the Angels rallied for five runs in the middle-three innings to edge the Cubs 6-5, in Cactus League Extended Spring Training action this morning at Diablo Park Field #3 in Tempe, AZ.

In addition to his big day at the plate, Baez also stole a base (3rd base following his double) and made the defensive Play of the Day, going deep into the hole to backhand a grounder headed for LF, and then nailing the out with a leap and an on-the-money throw to 1st.

In his first four Extended Spring Training games, Baez is 9-15 with three three-run home runs, three triples, two doubles, and a single, and in his last game prior to the start of Extended Spring Training, Baez clubbed a two-run HR off Paul Maholm in an intrasquad game at Fitch Park.

I didn't realize Baez had that kind of power. Those kind of numbers are complete dominance. A few more weeks of that kind of hitting and he will be in Peoria and will bypass Boise.

@CubsDen So Brett Jackson has now struck out just once in his last 25 PAs, spanning a total of 6 games.

XST:

Baez has hit a skid. Not hitting much of anything lately with lots of strikeouts and errors in the field.

Single A:

Concepcion sent to Peoria to start for the Chiefs.
Reggie Golden is having a terrible year, so far.
Starting pitching has been pretty strong in Peoria.
Zeke DeVoss has a line of .254/.359/.388
Oliver Zapata (OF) has been crushing the ball.

A+:

Szczur continues his horrid year.
Torreyes hasn't hit well, but has a solid OBP.
Rubi Silva and John Andreoli (Both OF's) are having solid years at the plate so far. Both are still somewhat young (22 and 23).
Pitching has been bad. Hayden Simpson and Chris Rusin have not been good.

AA

McNutt has been good, but hasn't pitched many innings. Has given up as many hits as walks.
Jae Hoon Ha has been one of the better hitters (which isn't saying much), but hasn't really produced anything.

AAA:

Vitters continues to bat 8th for Iowa --- not a very good sign.
Rizzo, while having overall great numbers, is hitting a cool 4 for 23 against Lefties this season.
Travis Wood had a strong outing in a loss. Seems to be getting it together a bit in AAA.
Brett Jackson hasn't been hitting much lately, but hasn't been striking out much either.
Valbuena and Cardenas have continued to hit very well.
