I know this is post-2005 but it really doesn't get worse than Mike McDougal, does it?

Yeah, that was bad.

The problem was, and this is why it hurt so bad, was that he was actually a pretty decent pitcher pre-White Sox.

Ryan Buckvich.

Tell us about yourself. What kind of pitcher are you?

Uh......right handed?

You can do so much better than that. It's really not that difficult. Besides:

Fisk had it coming.

And Frank wasn't off. Belle was viewed as a perennial MVP candidate and Bonds hadn't found out about BALCO yet.

Uh, ok. Guess I'll try harder next time, champ!

It still pisses me off about Fisk, including the Sox denying him access to the locker room that night against the Blue Jays during the ALCS. And the treatment in general.

And it's a toss-up....Belle was good but Bonds was still Bonds and a far better overall player who still was hitting plenty of HR's. It isn't like he went from 15HR's and a contact hitter to 73 HR's. He was hitting 30+ and even up to 40 or so before that. Better Defense, SB's, better AVG....better player and a yearly MVP candidate.

For me:
1) The '83 Sox vs. Orioles series. I was 12 and so excited and in the moment. I loathed Rick Dempsey after that along with Al Bumbry.
2) The '93 Sox vs. Jays series coupled with the announcement of M-Jeff's retirement
3) Superbowl XXXVIX. I was at a friend's party who is a huge Pats fan....nuf said.
4) Garvey hitting the homer off Lee Smith in '84. I couldn't ever stand that guy pumping his fists as he rounded the bases.....and yes, I'm a Sox fan but I was a young lad and caught up in the hysteria and Civil Pride.
5) Fog Bowl. Why the hell didn't Buddy just have Randall running around out there? I figured half the time they wouldn't be able to see where he was going.

No part. order

03 Cubs Game 6 and 7

Last 2 weeks of the 04 season (that hurt almost as much as 03....especially when Bernstein went all "Bernstein" on anyone who felt that they were not going to make the playoffs.)

SB 41

NFC Championship Game Bears/Packers

Bulls/Heat last year

Cubs/Giants in 89....that damn Will Clark.

1. 'o3 Cubs
2. Depaul losing to Boston College. Growing up in Chicago all teams SUCKED. DePaul was AMAZING. Had a 3 year record of 79-6! Of course 3 of those loses in the NCAA. When you have Aguirre, Cummings, Grubbs, actually broke my TV as a yute!
3. Cubs 04 - frustration exploded!
4. AZ loss to ILL. Yes I am a AZ fan!
5. Indians Tee Ball loss to the Yankees in Word Series game 3, after a 20-0 season. HEARTBREAKING!

Finally another Cubs fan that doesn't just mention game 6. With Wood going in game 7 and hitting that 3 run homer that entire series is by far the worst I recall feeling as a fan.

There were several disappointments for me with the good DePaul teams. It's kind of hard to believe considering they almost never lost. But I guess that's part of it. I never expected them to lose. The first one was when they got pasted by Notre Dame in the Elite Eight in 1978. Of course, there were the games against BC, St. Joe's, and UCLA. Another one I remember vividly was when Notre Dame hung their first loss on them near the end of the season and Kelly Tripucka kicking his legs like a goof. Also, I saw them lose to Gonzaga in what I'm pretty sure was the first game they played at the Horizon. I didn't know who the fuck Gonzaga was. I'm not sure if Stockton was on that team or not.

1983 AL Championship was a tough one. I thought the Sox were the better team.

I wasn't disappointed with the '06 Bears or the '05 Illini. I didn't think those teams could win those championship games. There were hopeful moments during each game, but I would have been pleasantly surprised had either team actually won.

Most recently I had $200 to win at 3-1 on a horse named Likeathunderbolt at Balmoral last Saturday. I got beat a dirty nose by a 20-1 shot driven by one of my friends.

- Frank Thomas' departure from the White Sox and putting up some solid numbers in another uniform
- Michael Jordan's Washington era

- Charles Barkley not returning to the Finals- he was my favorite NBAer growing up aside from Jordan
- The resurgence of indoor canadian soccer on ice in Chicago 2007-present, and the catastrophic chain reaction it brought upon so many aspects of life in this city.

1) Finding out Robbie Hummel was injured for the senior year of Moore and Johnson.
2) MLB strike(gave up on baseball for about 10 years after that).
3) Purdue losing to VCU last year(felt a little better when they did it to a few other teams too).
4) Kyle Orton's fumble against Wisconsin with the game basically won if he gets down(facemask).
5) Purdue football losing a game at Penn State with a horrendous call of running the clock even though the guy walked out of bounds. The referee would eventually be investigated after he screwed another team the next week. He would never be a ref again. http://espn.go.com/blog/bigten/tag/_/name/steve-pamon However, he didn't do anything wrong according to the official stance!

In no real order...

-94 baseball strike. That Sox team was at least as good as the 2005 club, maybe even better

-Eagles beat the Bears in the '01 playoffs

-Walter Payton's passing

-The Sox losing Mags and Thomas for most of 2004 season

-Giving up way too much for Robbie Alomar....twice

-Super Bowl XLI

I almost put the Packers winning the SB. I didn't watch but just a handful of plays that game and really didn't care. I hated to see them win, but it was awesome to see them choke against the Giants.

They did. I had the post-Bartman show on tape.

Bernstein almost in verbatim said, "We're not gonna have a Cubs funeral today. They've got Kerry Wood going in Game 7. They'll be fine."

Here is what I wrote in the 2010 version of this thread.

A moment, a play, a memory that just destroyed you in a sports fan sense.

A few that came to mind (Inspired by the McKeon interview today)

Jack McKeon's arms go up celebrating Miguel Cabrera's 1st inning 3 run home run off Kerry Wood in Game 7 of the 2003 NLCS. The night before was long and painful. There really wasnt one image for me. But going in to game 7, I was about 97% sure the Cubs would lose. At first pitch I tricked myself into thinking Wood might throw a gem and win it. Cabrera's homerun killed that season for me and Ill never forget the shot of McKeon throwing up his arms. It just seemed so jovial and loose in their dugout. The cubs were tight. (forgive me Bern Stine! ) That sucked

Victor Diaz takes Dempster deep
Prior Pitched 6 scoreless. The cubs had a 3-0 lead. Hawkins, then Dempster, then see ya. They still had a fucking lead in the wild card at that point and you still knew it was fucking over. (and it was)

Kelvin Hayden picking off Rex.
Ended the Super Bowl. As much as the Colts were in control the second half, the Bears were down 5 with the ball and 12 minutes left. Guess Grossman didnt see him.
I saw him.
I saw him run in the endzone.

That time I heard the Hawks lost what I heard was an important game...or something.

They argued with a lot of the torch-wielding mob of callers who wanted to crucify Bartman. B&B's stance was that Alex Gonzalez and Dusty Baker were to blame for the implosion. They took the "Cubs fans should be embarrassed for their behavior" stance when it came to Bartman.

Some tough losses this past decade but these stick out in my mind the most...

2003 NLCS Game 6
2011 NFC Championship game loss to Packers
OSU vs Michigan #1 vs #2 game in 2006 OSU wins 42-39
Super Bowl 41 Indy beats Bears
Illini losing 2005 NCAA championship to UNC
91 UNLV squad losing to Duke
