Of course college helps and/or is required for some departments. But definitely not all of them. Steve's own department requires just a mere GED as part of the basic requirements. So that means steve could have dropped out of high school and still became a cop in Springfield.

I was never employed by the Springfield Police department. I went to the Law Enforcement Academy in Springfield, Illinois, where I was Vice-President of my class (400 hour class # 12). But I never worked in Springfield. I didn't work in Elmhurst either Spaulding, but you guys can keep guessing towns until someone comes up with the right answer. If you call down to the Academy and ask who was the Vice-President of 400 hour class # 12 and what Department did he come from, perhaps they will tell you....

How did you ever manage to keep up a C- academically???

http://www.isp.state.il.us/academy/localtraining.cfm

Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board certified for reimbursement
Enrollment: 38 minimum, 40 maximum
480 hours

This course prepares trainees for the performance of their duties as Illinois local law enforcement officers. Instructional units for this course include the following: Illinois Vehicle Code, Physical Training, Criminal Offenses in Illinois, Civil Rights and Civil Liability, Firearms, Law Enforcement Driving, and First Responder. Evaluations will be made on the basis of written examinations, performance in field practical exercises (Physical Training, Control and Arrest Tactics, and Firearms), classroom participation, and behavior.

Students must achieve an overall academic average of 70 percent and successfully demonstrate skills during practical exercises.

To obtain certification from the Board, students must also achieve a minimum score of 70 percent on a comprehensive examination.

For each supervisor provided to assist in the administration of this course, one student slot is provided to that agency at no charge.

The 480-hour class includes additional practical exercises and precision driving.

The applicant needs to be employed by a city police or county sheriff's department in Illinois to attend this training.

Using Stats Inc to help incorporate sabr stuff into the mainstream
Insider on ESPN.com has the best draft preview stuff for nfl or NBA I've seen on the web - Agreed

It was so tough that now you can get paint and primer combined.

You guys arguing with Steve is like having sex with a corpse, you know? I mean, yeah...it might be somewhat enjoyable while you're doing it, but then afterwards you just feel kinda dirty and regretful of the whole thing. Y'all know what I'm talking about?

Do you want me to share the answer? It's a really easy thing to find on google.

The US military has major issues, poor training, poor leaders and enlistee's who are just there to stay out of jail, as I said before, not a huge % but enough to make me wonder whats going on. Those numbers of felons are so small it is almost not worth mentioning.

A few issues with this.

First, blanket statements about any demographic are lazy and irresponsible. From my experience many of the "bad seeds", as you and Steve would say, are not bad people at all. They made some mistakes and are taking the 2nd chance being afforded to them. Not everybody made all the right decisions all the time growing up. It would suck to be known for the dumbest thing you ever did. That's basically how you are tagging them.

Second, the numbers you pointed out are so ridiculously low compared to the overall numbers that make up the Marines and Army that it's disingenuous to act like felons being in the military is suddenly an epidemic. It's less than .01% I believe. So stop trying to paint an inaccurate picture.

Third, the military always has lowered its standards for wartime. This is nothing new. They need bodies and only 1% of the qualified people join the military. But the standards have gotten tougher since 2010. I don't know about waivers for felons specifically, but they stopped just handing out bonuses, require higher asvabs now, and overall are trying to lower the number of Active troops. So it should be less of an issue.

Your post sounded like a few old timers I knew in the Army talking shit. They hate everything about the "New Army" and all these young punks running around with their crazy outfits and crazy out-of-standard haircuts. Back in the Old Army we wouldn'ta put up with that shit. We woulda given these kids wall-to-wall counselings(that's military speak for basically kicking the shit out of a private) every damn month. Etc, etc, etc.

The military is filled with Americans. Good, bad, lazy, ambitious, intelligent, uneducated, etc. They have all types. The men and women in our military do not get our respect because they are all brave, strong, smart, proud Americans, but because even though they are not they are still asked to perform like one with their lives on the line.

They probably already do. I also live in a town much smaller than population over a million. A felony can cover a wide variety of crimes. It doesnt mean that they killed someone or raped the neighbors dog.

I lived on a military base for 3 years and if there were 100's of felons there I didn't notice, which sorta invalidates the point you are attempting to make.

It has nothing to do with now and when I was in, dont make assumptions on how I came to this opinion, my point is they preach one thing and do another, I get thats just life, but I won't ignore it. All this has to do with is in my opinion, taking in felons is not going to work out, it has been proven time and time again. Yea, they have there 1% who turn into a happy story and we are all suppose to think its like that with all of them, but its not the case.

All this has to do with is in my opinion, taking in felons is not going to work out, it has been proven time and time again. Yea, they have there 1% who turn into a happy story and we are all suppose to think its like that with all of them, but its not the case.

I agree the military should not accept felons. You need to draw the line somewhere. I disagree that it's a problem or has somehow transformed the military.
