Rodney Dangerfield was a one-trick pony and aside from a few chuckle-worthy lines here and there, was not funny.

Chevy Chase took one mediocre year on SNL where he pissed off EVERYBODY and turned it into a multi-million dollar career making bad movies (while continuing to piss everybody off). And in 2012, all his contemporaries still hate him. Was never funny. Still isn't.

Movie probably would've been better with Steve Martin in there somewhere. But it likely still would've sucked because the concept sucked.

Caddyshack is a classic example of Hollywood saying, "Hey let's get all these supposedly funny people on set and slap a movie together." That happens quite often nowadays, but not so much in 1980.

They had similar numbers their first few seasons. Palmeiro chose to use steriods and Grace didnt. That was the difference in their careers.

You don't believe it to be true? Go apply for a job as a Police officer and see what the process is like. You take a physical agility/strength test, then a written examination, then a psychological examination (here is the ammo you seek-no doubt) then a Polygraph examination (lie-detector test-kinda eliminates the lying stuff) and then they do a background investigation, usually including going back to the schools and neighbors you went to/grew up around, as well. In the end they usually (except for a large department like Chicago)they will only hire 1-2 officers from a testing pool of 800-over a thousand applicants. Unless you have a degree in criminal justice or Law Enforcement Administration, your chances for employment are nil these days. In almost every Academy class these days, over 90% of the people in the classes have such degrees and of the small percentage that do not, most come from sheriff's departments from more rural locations (Jo Davies County for example). You are still allowed to be an asshole, but you have to be an educated and qualified asshole.

I can speak from personal experience. One of my buddies barely sniffed a 16 on his ACT. Went to the local community college. Took him about 8 years to get his associates. Ended up as a...cop. The other friend scored close to 30 on his ACT, attended U of I, and got his BA in Finance in four years. Ended up joining the Navy shortly thereafter and is now finishing his Masters from the same college.
