I don't care for Conan O'Brien. People cream themselves over his contributions to The Simpsons like he was a modern day Twain, Swift, or Fielding. I'm rather enjoying his fall into obscurity after he was "wronged" by Leno and NBC.

Angelina Jolie is not hot. Maybe she was in the mid 1990s during her Hackers or Gia days. I saw her at the Oscars and was shocked by how skeletal/clowny/marionette-like she looked.

Bruce Springsteen blows. Just go the fuck away with your serious songs laced with faux gravitas.

I believe Caddyshack to be a godawful, unfunny movie in every phase of the word.

Rodney Dangerfield was a one-trick pony and aside from a few chuckle-worthy lines here and there, was not funny.

Chevy Chase took one mediocre year on SNL where he pissed off EVERYBODY and turned it into a multi-million dollar career making bad movies (while continuing to piss everybody off). And in 2012, all his contemporaries still hate him. Was never funny. Still isn't.

Movie probably would've been better with Steve Martin in there somewhere. But it likely still would've sucked because the concept sucked.

Caddyshack is a classic example of Hollywood saying, "Hey let's get all these supposedly funny people on set and slap a movie together." That happens quite often nowadays, but not so much in 1980.

In closing, fuck Caddyshack.

i'd like to somewhat echo these statements although i'm already on record for not being crazy about "caddyshack". the thing is, it's like "stripes". at the time, there was this big hooplah about the ushering in of new comedic actors and both "caddyshack" and "stripes" took full advantage of this.

these movies are the equivalent of the judd apatow runoffs we are getting now.

but "caddyshack" isn't a good film. it's a string of unrelated amusing comic actor showcases. the film's plot is extremely thin, the execution is shoddy and unfocused and let's not forget the ONLY good characters are the ancillary ones and the damn villain. that doesn't make for a classic. this movie's going to lose a lot of its "classic" status as it gets older...and it already is. i highly doubt 20 somethings these days regard "caddyshack" a classic in the way they would still say "animal house" and "ghostbusters" are. and for good reason. those are good movies.

"caddyshack" has its moments but it is something i'd rather watch the youtube mashup of the "best bits" of than put in on and watch from beginning to end. in a way, i think of it like "monty python and the holy grail" (another overrated mess). now, i liked "holy grail" but it is not a good *movie*. "life of brian" is the best thing MP ever put out besides "flying circus". anyone who says otherwise is a fucking ANTWERPFUCKER.

i'm not saying you can't like "caddyshack" (spaulding!), but when people like Kid and I shit all over it...just fucking accept it!

You give it 3 stars mr movie man? It's probably better than half the crap you watch and better than anything Tom Hanks has been in. Except when he was uncle Ned and fighting with Fonzie.

The behind the scenes thing I saw on it was interesting. There wasn't really a movie and they knew it. Most of it was ad-libbed. I get a laugh from almost every scene and it's hugely quotable. I like it how I like Road House. It might have more staying power than you think because parts of the plot while not great are just (in a way part) of life.

Road House. Thick plot. Great, well developed characters. That last line is especially good writing, really sticks with ya.

Thick was the opposite of thin, and what I thought of. Don't make fun. Quit putting movie titles in quotes.

agreed that conan is not funny...neither is leno or letterman or chevy chase ...and johnny carson was not either. tom hanks is not funny..never liked hanks until he stopped trying to be funny..he has been in some real good films but none were comedies ...saving private ryan was great ..the island one was good too with wilson

They are related and comic actor showcases are ok in comedies.

ok

This is insane. Animal House has all the same things you listed about Caddyshack and Ghostbusters is not close to being regarded like Caddyshack. Caddyshack regularly appears in top 5 comedies ever.

Roadhouse > Caddyshack > Sin City

I like all three of those movies. Caddyshack is a low budget comedy. It looks like that slapped that together in about three days and it is funny. Roadhouse is Roadhouse. Sin City has Carla Gugino's breasts and above that is still visually interesting.

Tom Hanks is and has been great since Bosom Buddies. Splash, Big, etc. from his early movie career were all solid films that hold up today. His middle career was filled with blockbusters. His recent career has sucked but its pretty difficult to continue to be great when you are sitting on a billion dollars.

Angelina Jolie is no longer the ideal for hot but the woman hit 40, what do you expect. She had her time and it was a good time. She was the ideal for sexy and gave no apologies for being overtly sexual.

Sure Conan sucks but the whole genre of late night talk shows sucks. I've always wondered ever since I was a kid why people watch that crap. I'd much rather watch re runs of good shows than anything Letterman, Leno, Carson, Conan, Fallon, etc. have to say.

Also, the first half of Stripes is continuously funny. It loses steam in the second half when they go to Germany, but there are not many comedies that keep laughs consistently throughout.

I find the poor production quality of Caddyshack makes it funnier

NFL Conference championship weekend is the best sporting event day of the year. It is better than any day of the NCAA Tournament. It is better than a game 7 of a World Series. It is slightly better than whatever hockey does to determine its champion. It is MUCH better thant he super bowl

I'd pretty much agree. New Year's day used t be something, but they ruined it. Memorial Day Sunday is big for me - lots of baseball, lots of racing. Usually some hockey playoffs.

(Probably not contrarian) We are just starting the greatest season of sports: Hockey playoffs, NBA playoffs, baseball just starting, other sports in full swing, NFL draft.

I haven't seen a lot of his shows, so maybe I just happened to catch the times when he did this, but what I don't like about Conan as a talk show host is that if a guest does something funny that gets a reaction from the audience he can't just let the them enjoy it. He has to try and one-up them by trying to do something funny, too. "No, no, look at me! I'm funnier! I'm funnier!"

This 1864 Baseball skit is hilarious, though.

Why not dig a trench? Then the ball would be as low as you seem to wish it to be.

Thanks for the cool breeze. It was most cooling on my moustache. Please, cool me again.

This one's for you, Nell!

The Super Bowl is the most overrated sporting event. The 2 week build-up is vomit inducing. There's too many commercials. The game takes way too long, and I usually get stuck watching it with people who don't understand the game of football at all.

These people that don't understand the game of football are more likely to be men also.
