Does it hurt these guys to toil in the Minors having these amazing stats and getting to think they are better than they are?

Rizzo is batting .391, with 5 HR's in 45 AB's!

Skinny Byrd cant play anymore, trade him TODAY! Boston! Let Jackson play. Maybe they need to wait 30 days for that control issue to come in.

The Cub fan has seen Rizzo before: Kieschnick, Pagel, Gary Scott. Yet he still dares to hope. Cub fans are cute.

Ya, what are Cubs fans thinking? I mean come on...we have Byrd & LaHair on our major league roster. Why would any cubs fans think youthful prospects, that are performing in triple A, could possibly come up to the majors and maybe out-perform these guys??? I mean who in their right mind would think that Jackson could get a hit maybe 3 out of every 25 AB's ??? Byrd is the word!!

You go JORR!!!

Nice play by "your" white sox center fielder last night to!!! Looks like someone was afraid of that lil ol' padded wall.

But that isn't what Cub fans think. They think Rizzo is Lou Gehrig and Jackson is Willie Mays. Maybe both of them will be All-Stars. Who knows? But it isn't like you've never seen a guy who goes down to AAA and looks like King Kong but posts a .523 OPS every time he gets brought up. Cub fans in this forum love bashing Gordon Beckham but I'm pretty sure he'd look really good playing in AAA. We may get a chance to find out real soon too.

Okay, I'll play. How good do you think they are? Do you think either one will ever be as good as Soriano- a guy most Cub fans can't wait to get rid of (and I hope you're not going to argue about that)- is right now?

and ALL last year, Sox fans touted Dayan Viciedo as their savior & the "second coming" too. Including yourself. Please show me where Cubs fans have called or compared Rizzo & Jackson to Gehrig & Mays!!! Honestly. That is a BS generalization on your part. I know you are a better baseball fan than that.

Define right now. If you call it just the last 3 years when he's a defensive nightmare and putting up a .253/.307/.785, then yes, the expectations are for both to be better than that package.

JORR, take your pre concieved notions about Cub fans aside.

And nevermind Jackson

Rizzo

With all you've read, what he's done in the minors, and how much the scouts and numbers guys seem to love him, isnt it rational to think he might be very good?

I don't believe I've ever had a conversation about Dayan Viciedo in this forum. And if I have, I certainly wasn't making any predictions for him, let alone calling him the second coming. Let's not make shit up.

I'll ask you the same question I just posed to mofo, so, how good do you think they'll be?

He's already failed once at the big league level. I certainly wouldn't write off the guy's career, but you've seen countless guys kill it at AAA and never do shit in the majors. I just wouldn't get so excited.

IF Hendry had brought Rizzo in, do you think Cub fans would feel the same way about him? I want to clear up my "preconceptions" by getting some answers from real Cub fans.

There was a cartoon in the paper last year depicting Dayan Viciedo as the savior of the white sox and you posted in large capital letters "AWESOME" and supported that notion. You were in that boat.

Also, any overexcitement is not limited to Cub fans.

Check the Gordon Beckham thread. People literally predicting multiple MVPs

I'm not sure what Hendry has to do with this at all. Rizzo is a consensus 1st or 2nd best 1b prospect in all of baseball. Any fan base in any city would be excited about that.

Just a question. I havent heard one person liken Rizzo to Lou Gehrig or Jackson to Willie Mays, except for you in this post. They are playing well in AAA. that may equate to them being decent big leaguers and it may not. Nobody will know for sure until they are playing in the big leagues. It is a stretch to say that anyone anticipating them coming to Chicago thinks they are going to be Gehrig and Mays. It isnt a stretch to think they may be able to help this current Cubs team.

He's not a "defensive nightmare". He's a power-hitting leftfielder. Guys end up in left because they're offensive players that can't do much else. I realize he's been a disappointment to Cub fans who thought they were paying for a 40-40 guy, but he's still been a good player for the Cubs.

What is the point of being a fan then? To be prudent? Im not an executive. It doesnt matter if Im wrong.

If he doesnt make it, he doesnt make it. It happens.

Probably they still would, because most people just go by baseball america.

But even if they did trust Hendry less, can you blame them?

Im not saying he was a bad GM but he didnt find a lot of young talent.

A thought from a real cubs fan. Taking money & baseball business away from the thinking, which I admit is not realistic in the business of baseball & how a team is run....but as I look at it today, I would prefer to have Jackson as my center fielder and Rizzo as my first baseman TODAY over Byrd and LaHair. They can't be worse & their youth & potential is higher. Why not find out what you have in a "lost year" anyway.

Now I'm pretty sure that is not calling Byrd - Mays & Rizzo - Gehrig. Still waiting for you to show me where Cubs fans are touting that JORR.

I'll answer that after you answer mine. How good do you think they'll be? A little better than LaHair and Byrd? All-Star caliber? How good?

I'm not sure if you're aware of it, but something called Josh Phegley and a journeyman named Johnson are tearing it up in Charlotte. I haven't seen any Sox fans post a thread about it yet though.

LaHair is constantly mentioned as not a "big picture" guy, which is wrong. If this guy keeps hitting, there is no reason he can't be playing for the Cubs 2 or 3 years from now. With Lahair,Rizzo and Jackson along with Castro in a future Cubs lineup, that's not too bad.

He definitely is. I understand Soriano's value and appreciate the need that he's filled for the past few years. This started because you asked what realistic expectations should be for Rizzo and Jackson. Based on their ratings from around the league, it's realistic to think that both will be better than Soriano has been the past few years.

He isn't when you compare him to other leftfielders, unless you want to say the position is full of defensive nightmares. If that's the case, I won't argue. But guys like that are going to be out there.

Be careful there Jimmy. You are almost comparing them to the 27 Yankees.

Who knows whether Anthony Rizzo is part of what makes them better? It's probably gonna be some guy you never heard of who Theo gets when he trades Castro to the Yankees.

Its all most fans have to go on. So you follow them on the internet, see them produce at lower levels and hope they do well in the big leagues. i dont fancy myself a scout. But when i hear about such-and-such a player doing well, sure, why not get excited? we are fans, right? Does it somehow reflect badly on me if Anthony Rizzo isn't an all-star because i hoped he would be?

Cmon JORR, Rizzo is one of the top prospects in baseball. He's not Bobby Scales hitting 340 in AAA

If you think the prospect ranking system is worthless, ok.

But this comparison is silly.

Interesting thing about this specific situation is most of the time when your replace veterans with young guys, you lose something defensively. Not the case here. It would be an upgrade in both positions.

No reason to bring them up before the service time date though

True, but I dont think anyone here has those unrealistic expectations. I think you're projecting the thoughts of some idiot fans to people here.

The baseball fans on this site are pretty smart fans overall.
