JORR, you have to get over this "Cub fans always____" or "Cub fans think_____"

Every fanbase has idiots. Sox fans are not better baseball fans. No one is. Theyre all the same.

The only difference is the Cubs have a huge national following and you maybe end up hearing a lot more about them.

It doesn't make any difference as far as what kind of career a guy is going to have. Hell, I think one of the Paciorek brothers retired with a 1.000 BA. But it does show that a guy is here, ready to play.

Rizzo has failed once. If he fails again, the shine is going to be gone. If they bring him up and he has to go back, that's going to be tough. The Cubs absolutely don't want that to happen. That's why I don't think you'll see him until September even if he never makes an out down there.

We haven't even discussed guys with even higher ceilings than Jackson or Rizzo. Lots of people are really excited about Baez and Maples. :D

Sale and Reed are getting out big league hitters. Rizzo has already failed once in the majors.

Sale did.

Reed came into 7 garbage games (All sox losses) and was average at best.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't average. I think his WHIP was right around 1.

I don't think that is the difference. The difference is the losing for so long.

You can't act like your park and fanbase and all your shit is special when it suits you and then try to disavow that stuff when it reflects on you negatively. "Baseball is better here".

I dont even understand this. I doubt any cub fan ever would say Baseball is better here or condone that silliness.

The park is old and some people like it, the fan base is Large, not special.

The one who put it in huge letters on the park at Clark and Addison and who is using it in his team's advertising.

I don't know who the Sox top prospect is at this time. Cubs fans can name a handfull...every year.

The only reason anyone knew Danks is because his brother was pitching for the MLB team.

Two of the top three threads in this section are about prospects

So Cubs fans are more knowlegable about their team & organization than Sox fans!! Got it.

I look at Rizzo as more than a prospect.

His failure would bring the same disgust as Brian Anderson.

Rizzo is not just a prospect! This is Jed Hoyers guys! Drafted in Boston, traded to SD with Hoyer, then traded to Chi with Hoyer.

Hoyer is all in on this guy!

Hoyer does not get 4 years to see how things work out, he accelerated that process with Rizzo.

Because it seems like you're trying to say the Cubs have more fans but the Sox have the same amount of idiot fans. It's bullshit. Every fanbase has idiots. The Cubs have the biggest fanbase therefore they have the most idiots.

I have no problem with the Cubs and Wrigley Field being special, but when those facts- if we're to believe they are facts- result in what some perceive as negatives, it's not fair to run away from what we previously held out as facts.

or, Sox fans don't worry themselves with trifling talent, 99% of whom will have no impact on the team for whom they root

Question for Cub fans: Would you be disappointed if Rizzo turned out to be as good as Carlos Pena?

Yes-that would be disappointing. Pena is a very good fielder and has above average power, but strikes out too much and hits for far too low an average to be considered a top 1st baseman. I want to see Rizzo develop into a player that is mentioned amongst the top players at his position. A guy that goes to all star games at least 6-8 times.....and not because he bought a ticket to the games!

I might be disappointed, but it does not make it a failure. Plus Pena is one of those guys Theos wants. Hardass guys, is what they want. So Pena does bring some other attributes.

If you look at Hoyers past with Rizzo a ton has been invested in this kid, the fact it was not the Cubs who did all the investing is irrelevant.

He was basically traded for A Gonz. Then for Cashner. Of course the Cubs dont get that deal without Rizzo being bad when they brought him up.

Yes, pressure is on the kid and on Hoyer.

Okay, so maybe Cub fans don't think Rizzo will be Lou Gehrig, but it seems most of you will be disappointed if he isn't as good as a guy with an .840 OPS and 260 homers in his first 1200 games. Do you really find that realistic?

I see him consistently hitting for a higher average than Peña. Same amount of power? I don't know.

Pena gets on base about 35% of the time for his career. That's higher than at least a couple Hall of Famers.

Well, I am not a Sox fan, so I am not as smart of a baseball fan, or so the commercial designed to have Sox fans buy more tickets goes.

But, because a guy does not hit about 35 HR's a year for his first 8 years, no not a problem. but a few of those years I do expect 30 and I do expect a gradual progression of improvement, with .275 / 25+ and 100 RBI.

OBP is a great stat, but for the guys who are paid to drive in runs, I want to see the RBI #'s high. Some GWRBI among the leaders.

I expect to see a bonafide MLB 1B starter for a long time, at least 6 years, until his $$$$ might not make sense v Free agency.

I don't know about Rizzo, but I'm thinking Jackson will be a Drew Stubbs type. Not really All-Star level, but a toolsy player with contact issues.

I thought initially that Jackson and Rizzo should have been up with the club out of spring training. But perhaps the Cubs (knowing they were not gonna be very good) wanted to have them in reserve, so that after the newness of the season wore off and fans were dejected they could bring the dynamic duo up to the show and give fans reason again to be interested? Because at the rate things are going, theremay be a lot of empty seats again this year as fans lose whatever hope they initially had for 2012 (if they were dense enough to have hope for 2012).

They held them back because they don't want to start the clock on their arbitration years. They will be up later this year.

He slugs more than Andre Dawson, George Brett, and Cecil Fielder.

Basically what I'm reading in this thread is that Cub fans expect Rizzo to be a guy who is just a little short of a Hall of Famer and anything less would be a disappointment.

RPB scolded me for saying "Cub fans think..." Well, I want to hear from the Cub fans who think it's unrealistic to believe that Anthony Rizzo will be the best first baseman in Cub history. Anybody out there?

Ive never been on that train in my life. Wrigley is an old park and reminds people of old time baseball and that doest bother me. Thats as far as Ive ever gone.

The only thing special about Cub fans is their numbers. Big Fanbase, so when something happens its a big deal to a lot of people

I know this trick JORR

Pick a player with a successful career, who the fans have soured on recently and say "Would you be happy if he was as good as ______"

Taking full advantage of peoples emotions and short term memories.

You want my hopes for Rizzo?

Ceiling-Mark Texiera
Floor- Nick Johnson

If he doesnt end up as good as Nick Johnson, ill be a little dissappointed (That doesnt mean he's a failure though, could be a decent player but I hope he's a little better than that. )

and Im not high on Jackson at all. I hope he ends up a starter. Dont see much beyond that.

When my GM trades for a guy twice and originally drafted him, he is telling me this is exactly the guy I want.

This is not a 1st round pick, that they just had to give him a chance to play, this is a guy they had numerous chances to remove themselves from and chose to attain him 3 times. Yes, that does raise the stakes in my mind.
