It's "legit" water too. Not like some courses that have a picture of a pond but then you get there and it's a dried up hole in the ground.
But it is a fun course.

Well, I can't make it after all on Saturday fellas. Girlfriend's dad invited us up to his cottage in Michigan, and she hasn't spent much time with him so we are doing that. I'd rather golf....but anyway, its fun up there too. So we'll have to take a raincheck. Sorry guys!

Ugie and I are still going. So, we have room for two more. I will be watching the weather, and making the reservations on Friday. We are going to shoot for somewhere in the west or southwest suburbs, based on what is available through golfnow. com.

I played like crap. The old adage, "drive for show, putt for dough", has never been more accurate than describing my play on Saturday.

I wasn't cold, and the wind didn't bother me. I hit plenty of 280 yard drives down the fairway, but I just couldn't hit my irons.

Don and I were all aboard the shank train, but Ugie played well.

The highlight of my day was donspiracy's golf bag. Beaten up brown leather, a mix mash of clubs too short for his height, and a Louisville Slugger.

"That is for the geese."

Also, Chus can kill the ball.

Where did you end up playing? I took my clubs to Michigan with me, but never made it out.

That bag was the shit. The surprise of the day was Don's ability to putt. He drained several fifteen foot putts. He had the flat stick working.

In my usual group, two of the guys hit longer than me (one of them is 6'4" and 370 lbs). These guys regularly hit 300 yd + drives. A couple of weeks ago, my guy hit a 3-iron 280 yards off the tee. We had a bit of a breeze behind us, and there was a bit of roll at the end, but that was a hell of a poke. I have seen him go over the green on a par 5, with a driver and 8-iron.

We played at Tamarack. 11:24 tee time for $27. Thank you, golfnow.com

How was that course? I've wanted to try it for a while, but the water does scare me a little bit.

It was nice. The greens were tough. We didn't see a beer girl, so Don and I had to load up at the turn.

Tamarack is a tough course. Was only the second time I had ever played the track, and I forgot that there were a few holes where driver simply would not work. I usually stay away from water most of the time, but I ended up losing four bullets since there is aqua on literally every single fucking hole.

Thanks to Chus for setting it up.

Good times, no, great times.

1st tee was first real golf swing I had taken in a few years. No driving range practice and it showed. I can play with the "too short" clubs, just need a little practice. Plan to get out two/three times a month this year. The water wasn't intimidating unless you planned on hitting the ball at a 30' angle. Water was actually very useful in gauging the winds. Wasn't cold with layers and the conditions were not a factor. There was more sand in play than having to take drop shots or chase the balls into the drink. The worst part of the course was the one end by the road, I could have stayed at a course in Joliet if I wanted to play near heavy traffic. Should have chased a couple of them goddammed geese into the street.

Yes, I can putt well once getting to the green area. Kinda lost it when I put my ball from bunker to bunker on the Par 3 14th hole after a great first shot put me right in front of the green. Think I am going to have to practice with my wedges or just use the putter from 75 yards and in. Ugie and Chus were a great pair and looked like actual golfers out there. Kudos to them.

I am going to the driving range this week and promise to all of the CSFMB golfers that I will break a hundred soon and even be ready to beat Ugie by Labor Day. Dat's right, I'm calling you out Mr. Shivsworth. I'm going into my training montage right now. Cue the music!!

I also have a bad habit of driving ahead of the group and off to the side when I have my own golf cart. Donspiracy ultimately started aiming at me during the round, which actually worked out to his favor. A cunning strategic move on his part, I must say.

I'm playing St. Andrew's (Jemsek Course) Friday morning. Hopefully, I can hit the irons a little better.
