He can now join Christopher Reeve Up On Cripple Creek.

I'll see myself out.

Saw he was on death's door yesterday. The Band is probably my favorite group of all time. I'll
drop a link to a great song they never released officially on any album, I got it on in my box set.
Levon doesn't sing on this one but he is one of the few guys who played drums and sang lead on
a number of songs. And yes, the Elton John song Levon is referring to Levon Helm. Rest in
peace.

Next time you watch it notice that Claptons guitar strap slips and without missing a beat Robbie
Robertson picks up Claptons part until he fixes it. Pretty amazing.

What a crappy week for us old farts.

Loved The Band, and I too will be watching The Last Waltz. They would have made a lot more great music if Robbie Robertson had not of been a dick.

RIP

The Last Waltz is the shit, as is the VH1 Classic album episode on The Band. Garth Hudson FTW!!

Bob Dylan's response..... an old friend and played alot of music together....

In response to Levon’s passing

He was my bosom buddy friend to the end, one of the last true great spirits of my or any other generation. This is just so sad to talk about. I still can remember the first day I met him and the last day I saw him. We go back pretty far and had been through some trials together. I'm going to miss him, as I'm sure a whole lot of others will too.

I've got a second hand Levon Helm story. I can't vouch for it's veracity but the guy that related it barely seemed to know who Levon was, so I doubt he could have made it up.

I got married in the summer of 2001. A bunch of my friends came out for the wedding. One of them, a guy named Howard who is dead now, hated to fly. So he decided to take the train to San Bernardino and then a bus back to Vegas. Howard loved traveling via train. He said it was civilized. I've never traveled by train, but I have seen the savages on airplanes wearing flip flops instead of sport coats, so I'm guessing he was correct. Anyway, I'm getting off track.

When I picked Howard up at the bus station in Las Vegas, the first thing he asked was whether I had ever heard of a guy named Levon Helm. He said, "I think he's some kind of drummer or something." Well, I've always loved The Band and naturally I knew who Levon was. Howard was an old hippie who dodged the draft in Canada so I was a little surprised he didn't really know. But he wasn't a music guy at all.

Howard went on to explain the concept of "train whores" to me. He said he was flirting/negotiating with a train whore when some guy came up and butted into the conversation. He said he looked like a crazy old guy, which, if you ever saw Howard, was hysterical in itself. The guy turned out to be Levon Helm and quickly he was holding court in the car, charming everyone within earshot, particularly the train whore. When Howard tried to shift back to business with the train whore, she gave him a look, pointed at Levon, and said, "I'm sorry, honey, I'm going with him."

My 2nd favorite concert video is:

U2's "Under a Blood Red Sky", their concert at Red Rock. It was before they sold out to the commercialism.
